In its first three centuries, the Christian church endured persecution at the hands of the Roman authorities. The Roman distaste for Christianity arose in part from its sense that it was bad for society. On a more social, practical level, Christians were distrusted in part because of the secret and misunderstood nature of worship. It has been estimated that more Christians have been martyred in the last 50 years than in the church’s first 300 years.

The values and ideals for Christianity was asceticism and martyrdom (Phil 1:21/22). They looked to coming next world to live with Christ. They lived it all a life full for God.
The early church did meet in homes
So they did go to church and they were the church.
I love that we are regularly reminded of this ‘in’ church…
Were the people who started building these temple – type edifices or palatial church buildings really Christians?
Physical churches have helped lotta Christians grow in their faith

The truth is that the early church did both. We should be doing both today, not preaching one over the other.
Christ’s mandate for His followers is… ” To Make Disciples”… Not To Proudly Make Extravagant Temple – type or Palatial Church Buildings.” as many rich or wealthy Christian ministries, religions and cults did… (and are doing).
The did attend church . They would attend to a place where they would congregate and meet up . You can call that place the church . Sure we as body are the church . But when we congregate.. That’s the church
They were gathering in house churches during the persecution times.
