THE LAW OF THE FIRST COVENANT

The law of commandments that are under the first covenant were given to us while we were sinners to show us how hopeless we are at trying to please God by our works

Why can’t we keep the laws of God ?

Romans 7:14
[14]For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Romans 8:6-7
[6]For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
[7]Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

In our carnal minds we were bound under the Old Covenant of the law until we paid the wages for our sin which is death.

So not being able to obtain righteousness in our sinful state we needed a saviour right?

Praise our Almighty God who loved us so much he humbled himself and came as one of us in a body prepared by the Spirit and was born of a virgin and born under the law. He lived as one of us but remained sinless therefore.fulfilled the law of righteousness and defeated our enemy.

Under the first covenant the penalty for sin was death so for God to be able to make with us a new covenant he died for us and the penalty was paid and now we being freed from the law and Jesus being righteous he was raised from the dead amd could now enter into a new covenant with us This was Gods gift to us.

Hebrews 8:4-10
[4]For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
[5]Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
[6]But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
[7]For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
[8]For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
[9]Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
[10]For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

NOW HERE IS THE IMPORTANCE OF BAPTISM iN HIS NAME ALONE

Romans 6:3-7
[3]Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
[4]Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
[5]For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
[6]Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
[7]For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Romans 7:4-6
[4]Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
[5]For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
[6]But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

PRAISE JESUS

Romans 6:17-18
[17]But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
[18]Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

So no longer under the law we no longer observe the Sabbath of the old covenant which is a rest from works as God rested from his on the seventh day but our rest is in Christ who finished our works for
us therefore we rest in him No longer in bondage by the law we are free to love God and our neighbour. because he first loved us and gave us of his spirit whereby we walk fulfilling the Law of righteousness.death no longer the penalty but the gift of eternal life
