The problem with Pentecostal denominations who came out of the Holiness Movement is they no longer preach sanctification in our pulpits. Several reasons for this. (1) Our churches are now convinced that numbers is the name of the game. (2) Our ministers and membership fail to understand the doctrine of sanctification. (3) Likewise, sanctification is no longer being experienced in most Pentecostal meetings.

Teaching the people of God about one thing. One reason a lot of preachers don’t teach it as a one-time experience that occurs after salvation is because they open their Bibles and don’t find it there. The best arguments they hear or read for it are just repeating church traditional sayings, trying to argue for it off of allegorical reasoning like the position ofthe laver in the temple, or someone arguing that the original Greek supports the idea because it uses the aorist tense without giving any explanation for how the use of aorist tense supports this particular view of sanctification or why most people who read Greek don’t believe in it.

Link Hudson you make your comment because you are AoG and you never have believed in the teachings of the CoG, which means that you are not CoG nor have you ever been in your life. You can’t make any conclusion because you do not know CoG preachers. Furthermore, we have already had this discussion regarding Koine Greek many times, at which time you have stated that you have never taken or studied the NT Greek language and the simple fact is that you are not going to accept anything that is against the AoG doctrine on sanctification that you believe.

U got to present some evidence before saying stuff like that, a verse where completed sanctification in the past occurred after salvation.evidence, not assumption. Ppl believe this because the preacher says so, IMO, not because of the Bible.
I don’t care if I depart from AG denominational beliefs on this. You seem pretty intent on preserving old time COG (Cleveland) beliefs though.
I don’t recall your actually building a case from your aorist argument. Sanctified in the past doesn’t prove sanctification as a one time event after salvation.

I agree with Link I have studied sanctification for years and I believe in a on going process than a one time deal. I know from study and experience. I work out my salvation daily which means sanctification is continually being worked in my life. A one time sanctification is once saved always saved which is also a false teaching.

If people mean by ‘progressive sanctification’ that they get 1% sanctified this year, 2% next year, then I disagree with that doctrine. But if they mean they are sanctified now and need to keep it up as a life-long, ongoing thing, then I agree with that.
One of the brothers here who apparently believes in a one-time post-salvation sanctification experience available to all believers posted this verse in support of his view:
I Thessalonians 4
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication;I asked if that interpretation indicated that if a believer, who was already saved, hadn’t experienced this one-time experience of sanctification, was it normative to expect him to engage in fornication.

Back to the OP, isn’t experiencing sanctification out of the meetings in day to day life more of an issue?

Melvin: I would also add some other influences. Movies and Hollywood and then TV and of course the secular fashion industry and then even Good Housekeeping Magazine and others often have completely nude models posed in a way that protects them from censure. Thus men and women have grown up in a world so completely different than our parents did. To some extent I think that we should approach this as many missionaries have had to do when they went to areas where nudity or near nudity was commonplace. The modern pastor who is bringing people in from the general culture has a special challenge on his or her hands. I do believe that under the right nurturing the Holy Spirit will bring about a moderation and in time a church that looks appropriate but that might not fit the images that are still in our minds.
