What does it mean to believe in someone? If you tell someone to believe in you.. you are not simply asking them to acknowledge your existence. Jesus said he who believes in him has eternal life. Might trust be involved?

Belief in Jesus Christ is given by God.
Philippians 1:29
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake -
In order to be accepted into Jesus’ kingdom, we must submit to him as our authority. Believe that Jesus is our king and has authority over us. Submit to him.

Yes, good point, Sonya Blade. Lots of people misinterpret that term.

I think another word you could use instead of believe is trust. That’s really what we are doing. Believing Jesus exist isn’t what saves, it’s repenting from your sins and trusting Him alone for salvation, and that also embodies believing in Him.

What it means to “believe in someone” is considerably different than what it means to believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ.
I may believe that a friend was the wherewithal to get a task done, but that most certainly does not mean I believe they are capable of handling my eternal welfare.Christians are Christians for this reason: the scriptures inform us that Jesus has laid down His life for a people whom His Father has given Him.
The sins of His people are imputed to Jesus Christ, their Surety – and the righteousness of the Surety is imputed to His people.
God the Father places the people ‘in Christ’, God the Son – and God the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, not only seals them but leads them into all truth.
May God be praised for His mighty work of delivering His people from the bondage of sin. -
Assurance of something hoped for
If you say to your child, do well in school, I believe in you, then you are saying you have an assurance that them doing well at school, will occur. You will have an absolute conviction even though you cannot see what is happening to them at school.

Belief or believing in someone is something connected with relying to someone to be honest. That he will always be truthful. That he is capable of what you hope him for. Reliable.
Faith is more of loyalty. More higher than trust. Faith is trusting without question. Trust is because you know he is reliable but faith is because of who he is.
Belief or believing to someone is about capabilities of the person you look up to.
You believe that he can do it because you know he is capable.
Something like that.
So these are established if you know the person well.Maybe thats the reason why God encourages us to seek Him with all so its more easy to trust, believe and have faith in Him.
