   Can anyone speak to a distinction between foretelling and forthtelling?
   Specifically in the Old Testament

   Great question. First, the people were unable to carry around scrolls as they were fairly expensive. So God used men to prophesy to the people concerning instructions and foretelling future events. This also served to give credibility to those who would prophesy of the Lord. There was stiff penalty for those who claimed to prophesy for the Lord, but were fake. God said they must die. Deuteronomy 18:20 “But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die. “

   All true prophecy comes from God only, there is immediate future events and far future events, immediate is forth telling and far future is fore telling, true prophets tell about Gods will for His people, most if not all prophets were killed or punished for bringing correction, overall prophecy is about Gods overall plan of salvation through Christ, this is the foretelling that matters the most. Acts 3:24 KJV
   [24] Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. Luke 24:27 KJV
   [27] And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

   This is not that difficult to study.

   My understanding of prophecy is conveying God’s massage to people

   So I saw in that passage group of people were prophesied on the mountain

   There was no audience to hear because all were prophesied

   So what is the purposs of that prophecy ?

   May be my understanding is wrong that’s why I ask this question

   If it is recorded, read it. If not then you are asking us to make things up.
   If it is not there, then no one DOES know and no one CAN know.
