1 peter 4:6
“For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.”
I’m curious on everybodys interpretation of this verse!:)

My guess is it refers back to the previous chapter…..
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. 19 After being made alive,[d] he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits— 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah….”
It is a bit weird and I don’t think other authors in the NT mention that Jesus was doing this preaching to the dead.
The best way to understand this passage is to have a preminarly interpeation by understanding the immediate context of the word “dead” especially in the New Testament.
My understanding is it’s the opportunity for the dead and Jews to hear the gospel and believe in Jesus. And then later when he comes and then dead shall rise’ this includes them also. Those who accepted him as messiah.
That verse without controversy speaks of the great and mighty work of JESUS CHRIST when HE died for 3 days. He went into the grave yard to preach unto the dead for 3 days so that they can be saved. That’s why psalm 68 vs 18 says Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them. That is, all those who rebel in the old testament HE went to preach to them that they may have portion with GOD. HE got the key away from death over them that they may have live with HIM. HE went to preach unto the dead that they might have no excuse touching JESUS.
The death of JESUS CHRIST was first significant for the dead then for we who are alive. David said HE will not allow me to see corruption that is he also testify to the fact that JESUS will come to preach to them in the grave.
The bíble is a mystery and it should be taken as a word of life.
May GOD help us.
