Marriage: A Loveseat for Two

Like so many people in America, I have had my share of nightmares trying to put together some new equipment or gadget without reading the manual. We get excited to open the box and cannot wait to put that piece of equipment to work. We are a little disappointed when we discover that it needs to be assembled, but take a few glances at the picture on the box and tell ourselves that the assembly is so easy there is no need to read the manual. We then jump right into fitting the item together, and in minutes we are done but notice there are a few extra pieces. We conclude that they are extra pieces and proceed to try the equipment out only to find out that it does not work. At that point, we hear that voice in our head saying: “You should have read the instructional manual.” The instructional manual is a direct means by which the product’s creator tells the consumer how to correctly assemble, use and care for the item they invented. I believe the institution of marriage is an invention of God the Creator to satisfy specific needs in us humans (consumers).
