Is there any actual biblical backing for “good friday”?

Yes, the day of Christ’s death was said to be preparation day, which was normally equivalent to our Friday. In Jewish reckoning, any part of a day was regarded as a day, which began at sunset. Jesus was buried before sunset on Friday to avoid work on the Sabbath, laid in the grave all Sabbath, and rose again Sunday morning, which equals 3 days. Attestation is very early in the church fathers, and the biblical accounts don’t speak to any extra days in the sequence.

Nope, math says Thursday or Wednesday to be true, plus one faction did sacrifice on Friday, but the other sacrificed on Thursdays….so Thursday is your winner. Matthew alludes to it being a double Sabbath by the Greek root word, which would explain the 3 days any they has to wait till first fruits.

Friday began at 6:00 pm on what is our Thursday…He died and was buried before 6:00pm on our Friday. On the third day (Sunday), He rose from the grave. No where does it say He stayed a full 72 hours…just on the third day. We as Christians now worship on Sunday because the newly formed church wanted to worship on the day that He rose. Saturday is still the Sabbath.

Wednesday crucifixion, Thursday crucifixion, Friday crucifixion, dependent upon which year, 29 A D., 30 A.D , 33 A.D.? Although the Christian year has pressed a Friday Crucifixion, here’s one, Donald Grey Barnhouse championed a Wednesday crucifixion, while James M. Boice his follower by one pastorate, a Thursday crucifixion. Split the difference on the year to 30 A.D. and fight to the death between the days. No one will get to heaven over such esoteric knowledge of the complexities of calculating NT. chronology this far away from the world of the first century A.D

Lent is a tradition of the Church. It’s neither forbidden nor commanded. It’s adiaphora. But that doesn’t mean it’s sinful. Rather, Lent is a wonderful time to live 40 days in repentance awaiting the day Christ died and hoping for the day of His resurrection.

Jesus died on a Wednesday daytime on the Passover near twilight, just before the high Sabbath day of Feast of Unleaven Bread and 3 nights and 3 day later He rose from the dead on the Feast of First Fruits in the year 31 as prophecied by Daniel.

Gates of Hell cannot Prevail against it amen. Calendars my friends can trip you up pay attention to the year we are in 5780 starting with Rosh Hashanah.
