Church of God General Overseer G. Dennis McGuire was born on November 23, 1944, in Kingsport, TN. Now an International Evangelist, he served as an assistant general overseer from 1994 to 2002 and as general overseer from 2004 to 2008. In his sermon to the 2006 International General Assembly he related hearing from the Lord while sitting in the house where the first Assembly had met. “As I sat there praying, I asked: ‘Lord, why was this place so special to You one hundred years ago?’ [He showed me] the answer: It was because of the broken, contrite spirits of those who were gathered there. It was because of their expectancy; they were expecting Christ to come again, and they were expecting important events to happen.
