Which Church of God is this? “Come as you are?”
One that Jesus would attend
Come as you are, yes!
and follow Jesus into being who He intends for you to be and become.
are they taught appropriate dress once they come enough or do they just keep encouraging them to came as they are?
Who decided appropriate dress?
I was raised up with unspoken appropriate dress all the way through to Lee College, but historically inappropriate was introduce into the COG by Paul L Walker at Mount Paran in the sixties. It was the day of Jesus freaks. they got them saved but never sanctified and they incorporated into society and became many of your parents.
Paul L. Walker and Mt Paran were actively involved in reaching the city and community with the gospel and love of God in a daily applicable way and personal level.
Motorcyclist, druggies, prostitutes, and the like.
They were not happy to just sit in their whitened walls and play it safe as some do.

Have you never read,
Proverbs 14:4
Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
So then
Luke 7:35
But wisdom is justified of all her children.
I will take the increase and deal with the cleanup of a messy crib.
I tell people where best you have.
I wear suits. I wear ties as needed, I wear polo shirts and casual slacks, I wear tee shirts.
It depends on the setting, time, and those that are going to be the target audience.
Mount Paran started out good and extended out to Miami and introduced a “do as you please COG” and you are holy if you have a sincere heart.
I wear suits, shorts , blue jeans what I feel like, called freedom no BIBLICAL prohibition against it. Only man made rules.
Oddly enough I was out and about today and I thought that I have never seen so many ugly people, so sloppily dressed, unkempt hair and most seemed in a daze; their bodies in general did not seem as if they regarded them as temples of the Holy Ghost. Yes I think much of this dates back to the hippy era. Yet a large independent baptist church just two blocks from my home do have what I would call modest dressers they all seem to have given some thought to ” i’m going to God’s house.

Are you wearing a shroud as Jesus did? If not, you better get “holy” by tomorrow. Holiness is modest not ridiculous.
Oops….what about the wild looking man called John, the Baptist? He would not have fit your mold either but yet he was “holy” enough to baptize our precious Lord.
