The cross must be central to everything. God is going to have a people of the altar. The altar speaks of death to everything that is not Christ. Since Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, is the only thing that God says that He is well pleased with, it is to this end the cross is working; to conform us to the image of that Son, reproducing us in time, the moral character of Jesus Christ.
