According to the bible can a backslider who passed away before repenting still be saved?

My standpoint is that, yes, a backslider can still be saved as Scripture says in 2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’and, ‘Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.'” Now the second part can be a point for argument but the context of the passage speaks about turning away from irrelevant babbles, quarrels and controversies (good works is the fruit of repentance, submitting to the authority of Jesus as Lord and Savior) and is brought upon by the mention of Hymenaeus and Philetus v18 “who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some.” Clearly they have an agenda inside the church.
Paul said in Ephesians 1:13,14 “In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” A GENUINE Christian is sealed, nevertheless.
Btw, I believe most Christians die not having the opportunity to repent of their sins. The Bible says the penalty of just one sin is death. If a genuine Christian who never backslid lied before He died and a genuine Christian backslid before he died, what is the difference? They both are Christ’s, that is, if they are genuine.

Willful living in sin after one knows the truth is apostasy.
Apostates do not go to heaven. -
You’re going to get a lot of opinions on that question but here’s my answer.
If by ‘backsliding’ you mean rejecting Christ, then they are lost.
If by backsliding you mean having sin in your life, we always have sin. Here’s the ‘wrong’ view of sin.
I’m carrying around a pillowcase and every time I sin it goes into the pillowcase. When I ask for forgiveness then the pillowcase gets emptied.
I just hope I don’t die with sins in the pillowcase. The ‘correct’ view is that in Christ, the bottom has been cut out of the pillowcase.

Lukewarms will be spat out from the mouth of Salvation. we can either be hot or cold. no man can serve two master. there is no middle path to heaven. never let the sun go down while you are still angry…..
I dont know for certain, but hope every soul surely gets its last or final call even if it is on their deathbed -
Well if he is a backslider, that implies he had been saved so he is still saved but just his relay with God has been strained, so once saved he is still saved so he goes to be with the Father
-
Yes! All people will have the chance to repent and accept Christ after they die and before they are resurrected.

Romans 8:38-39
-
No because while in that state, you are just as a sinner and we all know sinners don’t have a place in heaven. If you had repented then you’re sure of heaven
-
If you can’t earn your salvation you most assuredly cannot unearn it, if that is even a word.

God’s loving kindness, mercy and grace endure forever and He never changes. NEVER ♥️♥️♥️

Sounds like you are questioning whether a person can lose their salvation?
https://www.ligonier.org/blog/can-christian-lose-their-salvation/

THAT A JUDGEMENT FOR GOD ONLY.
-
once saved, you are forgiven for past and future sins. As to the sincerity in his heart about being saved, only God knows that !
-
Is speeding sin? If so .. if you died in a car wreck while speeding before repenting … Would you go to hell? … There is no sin past present or future that is not forgiven other than the sin a true Christian camnot commit .. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
That said are they truely Christians to begin with if thier life does not reflect it ? -
I believe those that fallaway unto death … Were not Christians to begin with …
But to die with sin does not damn a Christian for we will all died with sin … It is the blood of Christ that covers all sin… Unless you believe the Arminian/Pelagian gospel … The have the daisy as thier sybolic flower … “He loves … He loves me not” … I prefer the Tulip myself where its all God and nothing of ourselves .. Where the Christian can do nothing to earn salvation and therefore can do nothing to lose it … Salvation to those truly elect of God is assured and already settled in eternity … Elect before the foundation of the world -
Only God knows their heart and he is far more gracious than any of us.

Every Christian is a backslider. EVERY ONE. If you commit a sin, you are backslidden. That has zero to do with your salvation. Your salvation is sealed when you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. Once you are saved, sin inside you is replaced with the Holy Spirit. You can still be influenced and still commit sins by listening to the person of sin, satan. Repentance is a process. An ongoing process until you die.

So what is the teaching of the 5 wise and the 5 foolish virgins?
-
One of the errors I’m seeing is thinking that sins turn us into sinners.
That’s like saying barking turns you into a dog.
Dogs bark because they are dogs.
Sinners sin because they sinners.
Jesus says a good tree cannot bear bad fruit. My problem is I’m a bad tree. Picking the bad fruit doesn’t solve anything. I need to be rooted out. I need a new heart.
That’s the beauty of the gospel. Christ came into the world to save sinners and I am the worst.
The good works I do now are not to ‘save’ me but rather I do them because I am saved and my I want to respond in love. -
Hebrews 10:26-27 “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.”
-
Per Jesus, pray for the living, not the dead.
-
No you cannot if you backslid. The whole objective is to endure until the end. Some are trying to go to hell I see. Smh

Sajaida A. Harris Jimmy C Williams what’s the point of repenting at all if you can backslide and still make it? Ppl love making their own way. The scripture is clear.
2 Peter 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Define what a backslider is please. Without the definition of excactly what you mean, the question cant be answered correctly. So most of these comments are just opinions, based on what their own definition of backsliding is.

ONLY GOD KNOWS THE HEART

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.
I John 2:19 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/1jn.2.19.NKJV -
In the first place – they were never really saved
-
You cannot lose your salvation. If you did bad things after God saved you, God knows. But he promised he would never leave or forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5) Such bad theology being taught these days.
-
My question is, why did he or she backslided? Did he/she really accepted Christ? Only him/her and God knows.
-
Only God knows…because HE IS GOD AND WE ARE NOT. Sometimes a person could walk with Christ and serve Him..but only GOD knows if thier relationship AUTHENTIC. We do not. So if that person sins and dies ..again Only God knows will he go to heaven or hell.
-
Yes but may lose some rewards
-
Not up to me, or anyone else on this thread. So if you are concerned with backsliding go to God. We are not the ones you need to worry about offending.
-
I dont think so.
Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
10:28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear -
If the person truly asked Jesus to be his savior, Jesus takes over the job of saving him. We do not create or preserve our own salvation.
-
if a person has asked Christ for forgiveness and to love in their heart then they are saved. you cannot lose your salvation.
-
Yes but they may not get any rewards/crowns
-
That’s better left to the grace and knowledge of God to decide. Only He has all the details.
-
Salvation is not received upon our merits but on the atoning work of Christ. If one can snatch His child away from Him, then yes you can lose your salvation. John ch 1, ch10, et al. 1 John says that if we continue in sin, death will take us (cp 1 Cor. 11), but our salvation will not be withdrawn.
-
The Word of God does not teach us so. Christianity is not a speculative religion. It is a religion of the reveaved Word of God. Bible alone is our rule of faith, obedience and practice. No repentance after death.
-
Question:
Can you consider Judas Iscariot a backslider?
Here we can find an answer to your question. -
Jesus will not give us eternal life then entrust it to us to preserve it in this life, if he did no-one would get in, what Jesus started in us he will finsh
-
We are not saved by what we do or don’t do. For any of us there will be times we don’t “look saved.” Only God knows whether someone’s confession is genuine or not.
1John 2:19 says this:
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.
So in some cases at least, the “backslider” was never repentant toward God to begin with, and now they are simply taking off there mask and being exposed for who they really are; they have yet to bow the knee to Jesus.
-
If he was truly saved to begin with he is still saved. Implying that we can somehow lose our salvation would mean that we played a part in obtaining our salvation which is totally incorrect. We can do nothing to get ourselves saved and we can do nothing to loose our salvation, Salvation is a true gift from God. I don’t mean that we don’t still have to repent of our sins and stay right with God but salvation is not graded on a sliding scale that maybe today we are saved and then tomorrow not so much because we returned to our sinful ways. Once one’s name is written in the Book Of Life it cannot be erased.
-
Yes. A backside by definition is someone who is saved they just broke fellowship with God. For example, you have a son. At 18 he never talks to you again and dies. Is he still your son? Of course the fact that he broke fellowship with you had nothing God to with God giving you him. His relationship with God is the same way
-
Even on our death bed we all will be sinning whether it be thoughts motives deeds or works. Yes any one who has placed their faith in Christ alone will be saved even so the backslidden
-
I’m sorry brother but your presupposition is unbiblical. For man after he died no chance of repentance at all. If he died without true faith in Christ, then, the Bible says, he will be for eternal damnation.
-
The whole truth is,he’s not a Christian or probably he’s a pretending, professing Christian only
-
To me, he is not saved, a genuine believer will never backslide.
A genuine believer will never deny Christ for any reason. We see this from the very beginning of the early Church History that they follow Christ till their last breathe. No matter, the point of death cannot stop them following Christ and I take this as the sign of genuine believers.
-
No. Jesus said that if there is no fruit you will cut off.
-
Once saved always saved is a lie.
