While it’s true that Tithing was a law in the Old Testament, it’s important to know that tithing did Not begin as a law. In genesis 14:18-20, Abraham Voluntarily gave King Melchezedeck a tithe of everything he had. So tithing is more than a biblical mandate, it is a kingdom principal. And kingdom principles are not limited to the Old Testament, it applies to the church today as well.

No. Tithing was a set of 3 different taxes that supported Israel’s government, festivals, Tabernacle, etc. It cost each person about 23% of their annual income. Paul taught about giving offerings with a joyful spirit to help those in need.

No, Paul did not specifically said tithing, but look closely at the context of 2 Co.9:7, “…(if) you decided in your heart to give (a tithe), not reluctantly or under compulsion (it will be acceptable to God), for God loves a cheerful giver.” (Parentheses mine). Now the following verses (vv8-13) reminds me exactly what God have promised in Mal.3:10, and since tithing is part of the Mosaic law, Paul may have balanced his exhortation by what the Lord said in Mt.23:23. ( assumption mine ).

Since the Bible isn’t Paul’s word but God’s Word, please consider the following: Giving a tithe or one-tenth is mentioned 11 different times in the New Testament. Matthew 23:23; Luke 11:42, 18:12-14. In these gospel scriptures, Jesus affirms the act of tithing, “Yes, you should tithe.” Tithing is also mentioned in Hebrews 7:2, 4, 5, 6, 8, and twice in verse 9, and also in verse 10. In the Hebrews scriptures, Jesus references Old Testament people, but he does so in the present tense, indicating that tithing was currently in place as a part of Jewish life. Gentiles have been adopted into God’s family, so we are not exempt from this principle of faith. The giving spoken of in 2 Corinthians 8 and 9 appears to be of a different sort. When you go back to the original Greek, and plug in the definitions for the relevant words (ability 1411 in Strongs; voluntarily 830; grace 5485; fellowship 2842), Paul says that through ‘a miraculous force (“what God in His kindness has done for the churches in Macedonia.” Vs.1.) the churches of Macedonia were able to give above and beyond what should have been possible because they had great poverty v. 2. They gave of their own accord and begged to receive the divine influence upon the heart and its reflections on life so they could partner in the ministry to the saints.’ They took their faith so seriously that they wanted the heart of God reflected in their lives. As result, they gave generously. Given the scriptural references I’ve listed, there is no mistaking that followers of Christ are called to tithe even today. After all, scripture teaches that those who work for the kingdom deserve their pay (Deut 25:4; Luke 10:7 and 1 Timothy 5:17-18). How do nice buildings with heat and air-conditioning, secretaries, worship leaders, janitorial staff, and grounds keepers, not to mention mission efforts the world over, manifest unless Christians obey God’s command to give? Christians aren’t permitted to have the mindset that ‘someone else can pay.” If Christians don’t tithe, at minimum, and provide a means to support the logistics of ‘church’, who’s going to? It’s clear from the comments on this thread that many people do not feel the need to tithe and resent being reminded that they should. That’s kind of the opposite of having a heart so full of God that you can’t wait to partner in His work, isn’t it?
Add here: Deuteronomy 15:10 “Give freely without begrudging, and the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.” People can’t claim that tithing is not a NT precept, that we are only suppose to give what we feel is right. This OT scripture says the same generous heart was to be in play when Tithing was commanded of the Israelites. To give generously is NOT only a NT precept.

No. But Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, and with ALL your soul, and with ALL your strength, and with ALL your mind.”
He taught by the parable of the widow’s gift that what you are left with after giving is more important than what you give. If you can afford to tithe, you should give much more than a tithe, according to Jesus. -

Jesus did, yes He taught what to give (Matthew 22:21(KJV) They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s. But Paul teach how to give. 2 Corinthians 9:7(KJV) Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

We should support the church but if the church uses OT verses to support “tithing” then that’s wrong teaching. Tithing was for the Levitical temple and sacrificial system. In today’s churches they can ask you to support a ministry but they shouldn’t teach tithing.

No he wants your time not money but you should do what you can financially to help the church if you can. If not you serve. Its not mandatory. The church can survive with out money or a building

What is so wrong with tithing tho?? I mean even IF say it’s not in the Bible AND we give 10 PERCENT of our earnings towards the furthering of Gods Kingdom..we STILL have 90 percent of our earnings..THATS NOT ASKING ALOT FROM US..You may say..I don’t know what they do with that money..they may just use it for a different purpose of what is suppose to be..and I say..at the end of the day THEY will answer to the Lord for that. That’s stealing what belongs to Him. And at the end of the day..we serve a God WHO OWNS EVERYTHING WE HAVE..We are ONLY STEWARDS of what He allows us to have. WITHOUT HIM ALLOWING US TO HAVE WHAT WE HAVE we would be without. Let’s keep that in mind. Your job..ur car…your money ..your house..your clothes..etc..is all because GOD SAID YES I WILL BLESS YOU WITH THAT. So again. Whether tithing is in the Bible or not..we ought to give back to God for He has done SO MUCH FOR US..#period ??✝️☝??? be blessed

1. Just because Paul doesn’t explicitly teach something, it does not remove it from the Bible. Paul was a man, and not God.
2. 1 Corinthians 16:1-4 discusses everyone in the church setting aside a portion of the income for Paul to collect of the church in Jerusalem. He didn’t say he was taking all of it but just that the organization would have enough to provide their portion to Jerusalem. So the church probably had some amount of funds to handle local issues. We know for a fact from the beginning of Acts that people gave large sums to the Jerusalem Church that was then distributed to help those in need.
3. The Bride of Christ is the Church. The Church is not a building or collection of buildings and property. It is the group of followers of Christ working together to build God’s Kingdom on Earth. Each person is playing their part in the “body”. Meaning that practically speaking some are going to be doing jobs that just don’t earn an income but are important for the function. How is an orphan going to pay someone to serve them?
4. Getting hung up on abuse of this system really isn’t our concern. You are to be in community with believers building the Kingdom. If your leader or leaders are abusing the financial resources the group is pooling together, then run from those leaders and find a group that is serving the Lord. You do not want to get swept up in the judgement on people stealing from God.
5. Please remember that God does not command tithes and offerings because He wants something from us. He already owns it all; you only have the ability to earn anything because He gave you your talents. He wants something for you. He does not want your money to have you. You cannot serve both God and Money so if you are being generous to others you are proving that God is more important than your stuff. I have witnessed it grow more faith in myself and others when I give up money and serve others generously.
Again, if you are in a cold, dead church that only exists to maintain a building, run. Find a church that is alive and reaching out into the community helping the widows, orphans, homeless, hungry, and lost. When you see broken people and broken communities changing in miraculous ways, you’ll start trying to figure out how you can give more money to help more people. It is the most wonderful experience you could ever be part of.

For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. I believe to answer the original question, Paul did not teach tithing to the Gentiles. He did preach giving from the heart and from Spirit leading. The amount was up to the giver and God. And it was not always in the form of money.

He taught giving to the poor and to Kingdom work. He preached giving as with a generous heart as part of you relationship with Christ and fellow believers. He taught specifically against extortion.

First what was tithe and second, according to the tithe law Paul did not tithe because he was a tent maker.
Tithing was a form of tax. So, when it comes to a church building you do not tithe but support as a cheerful giver

Tithes were required for taxation, to fund the theocracy, similar to taxation today. The law required that to be paid. The NT never demands that a tithe be given to God, but that taxes be paid to one’s government (cf. Rom. 13:6–7). Paying taxes and giving God whatever one is willing to give, based on devotion to him and his glory, is biblical giving.

No. He spoke of a specific collection for the church at Jerusalem, and he spoke in general terms about giving, but the tithe is part of the Law, which we are freed from by Christ being the High Priest of a different order, and where there is a change of priesthood, there is necessarily a change of law. Also, the tithe in the Old Testament was about 35%! They had multiple tithes, so we wouldn’t have been doing it right even if it was required. But it’s not required at all. Give what your heart and mind say you *should* give, freely! :^D
