God Makes Decisions Too

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel” (Number 3:44-45)

There was a day that God decided to build a church for an entire nation. It was called “The Tabernacle.”

Of course, if you’re going to have a church you will need to have a team of ministers.

No worries.

The pulpit committee knew exactly what to do. It had been this way all the way back to their founding fathers…the firstborn sons served as the ministers.

But…

Instead of all those firstborn sons, God went over the head of the pulpit committee and made a decision. Instead of choosing the obvious and probably most qualified choices, he decided to go a different route.

He does this all the time.

On the day you were born, several hundred thousand other babies were also born but God passed over all them and instead decided that you would be the one born to your parents.

The blessings you have,

The privileges you have,

The freedoms you have,

Millions and perhaps billions of others, just as deserving, do not have them.

For reasons known only to Him, he chooses some to live in prosperous countries and some to live in abject poverty.

Some people live their entire lives and never really experience hunger and others never really experience satisfying abundance and fullness.

Some people live their entire lives and seldom if ever experience even a headache while others know suffering every day of their life.

Why does God make some of the decisions he does instead of the ones that seem obvious to us that he should have made?

Honestly I do not know and I don’t think anyone else (this side of eternity) knows either.

But I do know this…

Humility is required from those God has chosen to enrich and bless.

If you are one of those people please know that you are not a self-man man or woman. Oh I know you’ve worked hard and sacrificed to get where you are, but there are billions of others who could have done the same thing if it had been them instead of you who received the same undeserved opportunities you’ve had.

And if, through no fault of your own, you are struggling just to survive another day…faith is required.

Vision that looks beyond this day and even this life is required.

God, in his incalculable wisdom and love, has a plan for us all that is infinitely better than any of us could hope for or imagine if we will not lost heart but continue to trust Him.

The words of the old hymn our grandparents used to sing sum it up well…

Trials dark on every hand
And we may not understand
All the ways the God would lead us
To that blessed promised land
But he’ll guide us with his eyes
And we’ll follow ’til we die
And we’ll understand it better by and by

The ONE THING for today: For reasons known only to Himself, God has chosen you for a special one-of-a-kind life instead of countless others who could have lived it just as well (maybe better). Live it! Live it humbly, live it faithfully, and leave the final results with God.

If man has had his say, one day God will have his say. Make no final judgments until you hear what He says.
