Hi Guys.. can someone explain this verses? what is happening in this time and the purpose?

Exodus 4:24-26 NIV
At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses and was about to kill him. [25] But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet with it. “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said. [26] So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.)

thanks 🙂

Do you have access to commentaries to look this up? Sincere, not accusatory.

By not circumcising his son, Moses has removed himself from God convenant. Basically he was disobeying God, so God couldn’t use someone that was not living in obedience.

“Along the way at a [resting-] place, the Lord met [Moses] and sought to kill him [made him acutely and almost fatally ill]. [Now apparently he had failed to circumcise one of his sons, his wife being opposed to it; but seeing his life in such danger] Zipporah took a flint knife and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it to touch [Moses’] feet, and said, Surely a husband of blood you are to me! When He let [Moses] alone [to recover], Zipporah said, A husband of blood are you because of the circumcision.”

The events narrates in exodus 4:24-26 are significant showing the Lord remembering his promises of the covenant and the people are to remember the conditions of the covenant.
Moses is held responsible for the provisions of the covenant with Abraham that require him to circumcise his sons (Gen. 17:9-14)
By failing to do so Moses is being punished or cut off from Israel (see also ex. 12:15 lev 7:11-36) when you’re not obedient to God you don’t receive his gifts you receive punishment.

Moses had not circumcised his son because he was not living with the Jews in Egypt but on the way back from Egypt God was requiring Moses to do it. Moses wife was not a Jew so she did not understand why he had to do this
