How do I know for sure that the Roman Catholic Church isn’t the true church? I am in-between RC and protestantism. I am having surgery on the 4th of June and I am very afraid of going under without going to confession. I don’t know if this is a valid fear or if none of it matters. Someone help me understand?
R.C. have too much dependance on non canonical scripture for certain elements of their dogma (purgatory, etc.), as well as nin biblical ideas such as Maryiolotry, praying to saints, the papcy.
It’s a valid fear based on what you have been taught! We confess our sins to God through Jesus. Not through a priest. A priest has no right to ‘pardon’ you. It’s not biblical that is how we know. All the best for your surgery!
As a former Roman Catholic, I have found that it’s not the “church” that saves you, it’s the gospel. Read the bible and see which side is more consistent with it.
People who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and savior are the Church. The church isn’t denomination it’s the people.
Belief in the death burial and resurrection is all you need. You’re not saved through works.

Dee I am a former Catholic it wasn’t until I started not only reading scripture but studying it that I realized the Catholic Church and it’s doctrine and traditions are not Biblical. You need to find a really good bible scholar like John MacArthur to point you in the right direction. He has many sermons on YouTube that address exactly what your problem is. Get a MacArthur study Bible and listen don’t you worry one bit about confessing to a priest before surgery you directly ask God for forgiveness of your sins. Because of Jesus we can now go to God in his name. Nowhere in scripture does it say we need a priest to grant us forgiveness. Get out of that church as you study your Bible you will see things much clearer
Don’t be afraid, I’m a former Catholic. If you start reading the Bible, you’ll know how unbiblical majority of what they teach. Seek the true God with all your might!

Priests and Pastors come and go. But God remains in all. More important is the relationship with the Lord than any. Confess to Him.

If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We can find forgiveness without a human priest, jesus is our priest we can go to him in faith.

I’ve always been a Protestant I have a lot of catholic family.
I have recently started reading the catholic catechism because I want to understand their doctrine through my own reading but I listen to this guy a lot and trust he is theologically sound

Man cannot forgive sins and scripture tells us not to pray in vein repetition, so no man in robes can forgive us our sins. Keep your faith in Christ and Christ alone, for He is sufficient. The intercessor between man and God is Christ Jesus, not someone in a building. God bless.

You can go/ call directly to Jesus. Whether it be confession or just asking to help you in your situation. No need to be part of particular sect or denomination. Although prayers of other believers would be a great encouragement. God bless.
To the OP: Dee I am a very faithful Catholic that is convinced the Catholic Church is true. However if I was in your shoes I would indeed go to confession and since you are unsure simply say to God “God if this displeases you please forgive me” God knows your heart and as long as your truly seeking him he will draw you and love you
Dee, God is calling you to true repentance. Christ Jesus and Him alone is the only high priest God has said to confess your sins. God says as far as the east is from the west he has forgiven your sins. If you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart God raised Jesus from the dead, you are saved. Sealed with the Holy Spirit. He has not given you a spirit of fear. Fear not, Christ is your deliverer. Confess to Him. He is your high priest. Come out of the Catholic church. It has taught you falsely. Praying for you.

You fear is valid.
Why don’t you just follow what 1 John 1:9 about confession. Please read it and you’ll see that it does not mention RC or Protestant that will forgive you.
I, personally don’t do confession as I’m not Catholic based on , there is 1 mediator between God and man, Christ Jesus. While that does it for me, that may not be enough to convince you and I hope you’re able to come to peace with whatever you’re looking for, sincerely.
