  1. Timpac Capuyan Lloyd says:

Not in the context of prosperity gospel but in the context of generous giving.

  2. Kathy DeVoss says:

Tithing is not a NT doctrine but God loves a cheerful giver. We tithe because we believe in giving back part of what God has blessed us with but it is not required. I just know that in tithing God has richly blessed us.

  3. Alex Wong says:

Teach the history of the tithe, the principle of giving and offering, and the biblical tithe.

  4. Wayne Baird says:

There is no mention of tithing in the new covenant

  5. Nick McKnight says:

Christ does not demand 10%. He demands all of you.

  6. Susan Harris says:

No, they should not teach it. It is not NT doctrine. The church should not teach nor make people feel less for not giving what the church feels they should. With that said, should people give what they can, when they can to support those feeding them spiritually? That is a good thing. But, that is not tithing, that is a gift.

  7. David Loewen says:

2 Corinthians 9:7 “You should each give, then, as you have decided, not with regret or out of a sense of duty; for God loves the one who gives gladly.”

  8. Dan Richards says:

The Biblical tithe was never money. It was food. Specifically crops and livestock raised in the Promised Land…

  9. David Loewen says:

Galatians 6:2 “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

  10. David Loewen says:

2 Corinthians 8:12 “If the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.”

  11. Min W M Carpenter says:

The Bible teaches that there is a blessing in tithing. So if the Bible teaches it then we should teach tithing. But not as a law for us today, but as a kingdom principle!

  12. David Loewen says:

2 Corinthians 9:7 “You should each give, then, as you have decided, not with regret or out of a sense of duty; for God loves the one who gives gladly.”

  13. David Loewen says:

2 Corinthians 9:11 “You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

  14. David Loewen says:

Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

  15. Dennis Collins says:

Teach about Jesus and do it properly and you will be compelled to give

  16. David Loewen says:

1 Timothy 6:17-19 “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they make take hold of the life that is truly life.”

  17. Antonio Salgado Jr. says:

Tithing according to the Mosaic law of the Old Covenant, no.

Generous giving as described by Paul and Jesus in the New Covenant, definitely.

  18. Ariel Rollepa says:

Tithing is a discription on how Israelites gave their offering. it is not a religious term but mathematical. It is their mode of giving and in the process of time it is absorb in the law. In the whole biblical sense, it is not prescribe as a standard of giving.

  19. July Belandres says:

I don’t give tithe but if I will compute mathemathically what I’m giving to my church (money) it is about 32% of my income.

  20. Keith Rockefeller says:

The New Testament teaches cheerful giving; not tithing. Tithing was of crops, livestock, and intended to support the Levites who had no land inheritance. In the New Covenant we don’t have a priestly tribe, but are encouraged to give cheerfully. We don’t tithe. We cheerfully give.

  21. Brad Jones says:

No. New Covenant gifts and offerings are not the same as Old Covenant tithing.

  22. Steve Rubes says:

Why not how else would the church survive? They have bills like everyone else

  23. Dwight Osborne says:

No. New Testament giving is grace-giving. Storehouse tithing was given exclusively as part of the law and the Mosaic covenant: all exclusive to Israel

  24. Stephanie Lynn Oaks says:

God can do more with 90% of your money than you can with 100%.. It is His first not ours. And ALL Scripture should be taught 2 Timothy 3:16-17

  25. Keith Morris says:

If you have trouble giving the 10% found in the OT then you will struggle more to be obedient under NT guidance.

  26. Sherman C Fletcher says:

I believe in supporting my church and the spread of the Gosple’ that being said , Titheing was a mandate given to the Israelites never to the Gentiles….

  27. Juan M. Chavez says:

Actually the bible teaches tithing. But it should be a voluntary tithe not a mandatory tithe. I tithe because I love God and not because man is asking for my tithe at my church they provide a monthly report to the complete congregation of were and what the money is spent on. I have no problem tithing this way. It’s actually a personal matter between you and God.

  28. Robert Gilland says:

Yes, they should teach it is not part of Christian life

  29. Steven Christina says:

Tithing is not found anywhere in the New Testament era. Its an Old Testament requirement for Jews to fund the Temple and the Levitical priests. Since there are no more priests or temple, there are no more tithes. You will not find a single verse in the NT that commands Christians to tithe. Instead, “let each one give as he has decided in his own heart”. Those who teaching tithing are teaching error, but those who choose to tithe are not practicing error. If someone wants to give 10% then that’s their choice. But if someone teaches that a Christian is required, they are teaching error. I addressed this on a podcast:

  30. Mark Beecher says:

No – Jesus didn’t! It was an Old Testament practice and also included people’s Taxes! When Jesus pointed out the woman with the mite, he was simply showing another example of how the Pharisees were hypocrites. Also … when Jesus encountered the Young Rich Man … He suggested the man sell all that he had and give the money to the poor, not to the Temple or the synagogue .

  31. Rene Angeles says:

The Orthodox Jews today don’t tithe, because they can not tithe. The Temple and Levitical priesthood are no more.

We ought to stay away from the word tithe as law or principle and focus on sacrificial giving.

Then comes the question: Where should we give? Give to fill a need!

Family, friends, strangers and the fellowship. The word tithe confuses christians to think they have to give a certain percentage and that it has to go to the local church.

  32. Rene Angeles says:

With all do respect to my faith family in Christ who give out of love for God.

The tithe teaching is one of the biggest scams in the church.

Those that are not using trickery ought to consider dropping the OT term and sticking with offering, gift and giving.

  33. Punjirakuzhi Mathew Joseph says:

It shouldn’t as tithing is related to the OT, the temple and the priesthood. In the NT it is replaced with stewardship which offers deeper commitment. So, the Church should teach stewardship all we that we possess and naturally, more than tithe will fall in.

  34. Steven Christina says:

Tithing is required. If you were told that you don’t have to tithe then Saydum lied to you.

Saydum does not want you to support ministries like Billy’s.

  36. Marion Silvestre says:

Tithing in the Old Testament is in regards to crops. In the New Testament Christians are commanded to give what they can and to do it joyfully. If Christians want to give 10% to the church, that is perfectly fine.

  37. John Marshall says:

Teach it? Yes. Require a certain percentage? No.

  38. Gustavo A Palacio says:

Cheerful givers yes! Everything belongs to the Lord, not just the 10% it has nothing to do with the amount of money we give, you can give your time and other things because in many cases folks don’t have enough money, we don’t give to the Lord so we can get more money back, we give abundantly and cheerfully because we are in love and grateful towards Him! We give to the needy, the widow, the poor, ministries that are full filling the great commission, and to our local congregations if they are proclaiming the gospel of the Kingdom by making disciples and feeding the poor.

  39. Kevin Taylor says:

The church can teach “offering” or giving from your heart voluntarily. But to teach “tithing” as if it’s required by scripture is false teaching.

  40. Paul Wiley says:

No, none of the disciples taught tithing to the church in the New Covenant. Tithing was taught to the nation of Israel, to the Jewish people who were under that law of Moses. Christians are not under the Law of Moses, but under the grace of God in the New Covenant. So, we receive instructions on giving through the epistles of the apostles.

  41. Matt Bednar says:

Tithing was a requirement under the Law for Israel in support of the Levitical priest system. It was basically their tax under the governance of God. And technically speaking, there were 3 different tithes that amounted to about 23% not 10. In the new covenant, the yoke of bondage is lifted and tithing is not required. God says to give with a cheerfull heart, not out of necessity or grudgingly, but each one as he has purposed in his heart. These churches that teach tithing as a requirement are in error, and living under a form of Old Covenant law.

  42. Michael Satterlee says:

No. In the law that God gave to the Israelites, He authorized “the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people.” (Leviticus 27:30; Hebrews 7:5)
Nearly all Christian churches have long taught that God also now requires Christians to pay “tithes” to their churches and that He has authorized the clergy of Christian churches to collect these “tithes” from them. Christian clergy members have often explained to their church’s laity that “tithing” means giving “ten percent” of their income “off the top” to their church. Christian churchgoers are also often told that, if they want to do any other charitable giving, those gifts must be made in addition to the ten percent they give to their church. Members of the Christian clergy also frequently tell members of their church’s laity that if they do not fully “tithe” they are “robbing God.” To support their contention they often read from the Old Testament’s book of Malachi where we find that God said that Jews who did not then pay tithes, as His Law required them to do, were “robbing” Him. (Malachi 3:8-10)
When members of the Christian clergy who are making these monetary demands are reminded by someone in their church that “tithing” was a part of the Jewish law and that the Jewish law came to an end upon the death of Christ they often respond by saying that God’s people practiced tithing long before it became a part of the law of Moses. They then use Abraham as an example. For the Bible tells us that he gave “a tenth of everything” to a priest named “Melchizedek.” (Genesis 14:18-20) Many Christian clergy members then go on to say that since the practice of tithing existed long before the institution of the Mosaic law which included tithing, it should now be recognized by us as an “eternal law,” or an everlasting “principle,” which God now requires Christians to follow.
However, this amounts to inconsistent reasoning. For Abraham was also told by God to become circumcised. (Genesis 17:10-14) And like tithing, circumcision later became a part of the Jewish law. (Leviticus 12:2-3) Yet the New Testament tells us that God does not now require Christians to be circumcised. (Galatians 5:1-6) So since He does not, we have no reason to believe that tithing was meant by God to be understood by Christians as any more of an “eternal law” than circumcision.
Rather than being required by God to pay tithes to their Christian churches the New Testament tells Christians that, “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7) Very seldom, however, during the long history of Christianity has this passage of Scripture been read in a Christian church by a member of the Christian clergy. Instead for most of the last 2,000 years, Christian church leaders have continually promoted their traditional but false doctrine that God requires Christians to give at least ten percent of their income to their church. Their doing so reminds me of something Jesus Christ once said to “some Pharisees and teachers of the law.” He told them, “You nullify the Word of God for the sake of your tradition.” He then told His disciples, “Their teachings are but rules taught by men.” (Matthew 15:1, 6, 9)

  43. Carl Moulton says:

Jesus taught so I teach it.

  44. Kim Churchman says:

I love to support all the good my Church is doing

  45. Brian Foster says:

If it is taught in order to be in compliance with the Law, then it can’t stop with tithing but must include the whole law.

  46. Gabriel Santiago says:

They must teach about Giving. Jesus Christ Give His own life. That is illustrate of Giving.

  47. Johny Goodwin says:

No, the church should teach giving.

  48. Philip James Harris says:

In our church it is very rarely ever mentioned the church doesn’t need to Christians do it automatically and no excess is every taught (giving obscene amounts ) unlike the prosperity gospel that needs your money to buy new cars ,mansions even jet planes ,my opinion is this the pastor needs a home not a mansion, a car not a Lamborghini, and a airplane ticket if preaching to a church far away not a 50 million dollar plane

  49. Julie Jones says:

Paul our DUE TIME TESTIFIER i.e THE RISEN GLORIFIED CHRIST DUE TIME TESTIFIER doesnt teach tithing

  50. Mike Cresswell says:

no, tithing was the old covenant, it should teach gracious and abundant giving as led by the Spirit. But for a chuirch to do that it must be led by the Spirit in the firts place?

  51. Vusumzi Ngceke says:

The Church should teach the whole counsel of God – the entire Bible

  52. Jay Zeke Malakai says:

No. First, tithing wasn’t even about money, but food. Second, Paul taught that giving should never be compulsory. We should give what we purpose in our heart, no more, no less. And who gets that money is open to interpretation. Your church, a charity, the hobo on the street, just make sure you’re being wise and godly.

  53. David Okai says:

CHRISTIANS can learn about TITHE under the law But they Are not to pay TITHE!!!
Free Will giving is the Christian new COMMAND
Tithing is part of the Law,
If Christian are under the law, they should pay TITHE .

  54. Dylan Flow Ang says:

the church should teach who is the priest and levites and allow food to be eaten in church before reaching tithing

  55. Michael Passalaqua says:

My church dosnt preach tithing. During offerings they ask that you celebrate your giving and give joyfully. They never mention tithing or percentage or do they ever preach sermons about it. They say simply that God will provide through the giving of the congregation.

  56. Mark Marley says:

Tithing is biblical…it just isn’t Christian.

  57. Linda Rademeyer Fouche says:

Yes. It is Biblical so why not?

  58. Justin Walker says:

The book of Malachi is adressed to preists who were ordered to take a tithe of the tithes to the storehouse to lay up for the needy and times of famine. “Will a man rob God” was directed at preists who took tithes that had been faithfully given to God and keeping it for their own selfish reasons. This should be a passage shared with church leaders rather than the congregation.

  59. Christine Langåker says:

It depends on what you mean by tithing. Giving? Or just giving 10%?

Jesus said this in Luke 6:38

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

The believers in Acts shared everything, not out of compulsion, but out of love and unity of spirit.

Tithing 10% off the top of your possessions was an Old Testament practice, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with setting a goal for yourself that you’ll give nothing less than this. But I think Jesus took it to the next level and dealt with the idolatry of loving the things of this world including money. I think that’s why he didn’t give a specific amount or percentage when he told people to give. The consistent thread that runs through all of his teachings is, live for the next world not for this one. The Lord will provide all your needs, so don’t be afraid to give big.

  60. Carl D Pedro says:

I think Churches should teach what’s in the Bible

  61. Jack Johnston says:

The New Testament teaches to give as God has prospered you.

KJV 1 Corinthians 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

While most evangelicals preach that the O.T. law does not apply, for some reason that tithing thingy just keeps hanging around and just won’t go away with the rest of the law.

I wonder why preachers just are not consistent in this area. After all, they don’t go around insisting on circumcision anymore. What’s up with that.

  62. Tanner Street says:

You can teach it to the point of in information, but as far as your Pastor saying pay tithes, he would be wrong. Because tithing puts you back under the law……in fact, in my church we don’t take up an offering… why? Because it could cause dissention in the church, seeing who puts what in the offering plate. So, at the back of our church, we have a box. Whomever gives, and what they give is between them and God. We’ve been blessed, because we’ve never been unable to help anyone. Our church is medium sized

  63. Darryl M Mance says:

The Church should teach the importance of giving and why it’s important to support the building that believers use for corporate worship.

  64. Kerry Murrell says:

I am from a Jewish family background…we are 4th generation born again Jews. I researched this tithe thing because I was peeved off with seeing the demands from Pastors in the Island churches putting on their poor…I have seen kids get sick and families go without while the pastors get rich…so…
For your information: according to the Torah and the Bible: the tithe is OT and is not money. It is food. The Israelites were told to bring food into the temple as a tithe and 10% was used for the Levites for feeding their families as they were the workers day and night in the temple. In the NT we are to be cheerful givers and look after one another as if you remember in the book of Acts not one person among the church was in need. If you want to look at what real giving is look in the gospel and see the widow woman, Jesus said she gave more than all of them. Why? Because she gave everything she had…mmm none of us give up everything totally and wholly on this earth yet that is what he wants us to truly give…can’t take it to heaven…if you don’t believe me on this please go to your local synagogue and speak to the Rabbi and ask to be shown in the Torah and have it explained.

  65. Eric Perez says:

Tithing is law now we live by the grace Paul teach us to give with grateful heart so we can give morethan tithes

  66. Breanna Gray says:

    Malachi 3:8-10
8 ¶ Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive i

  67. Tom Salamone says:

    No it should not

  68. Delmus Gobble says:

Giving freely . NT says to give freely and be a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9: 6,7

  69. Michelle Thomas says:

There are people of good conscience who believe the necessity of tithing ended with the old covenant.

  70. Nick Nic says:

Give some common sense on this esay subject,
    Do you like to go
fellowship with your brothers and sisters?
    If the answer is yes,
Then who do you think pays for the building?
The pastor special money he gets from some magic place? The government?
It’s not that hard people always looking for scripture on tithing….
IF YOUR READ YOUR BIBLE ITS SAYS GIVE FROM THE ABUNDANCE OF YOUR HEART.

  71. Richard Garcia says:

No, if that fails the building, that fails the building. The church is NOT the building. None of this is how it should be. Go read ACTS.

Are you a Levite? Do you own private property? Then no tithe.

But, only an indecent person never gives a goodwill offering. A tithe is a PRICE. It’s a DEAL. it doesn’t matter if you are cheerful about it, it’s a set price.

THIS is why the world is the way it is. There is no understating by the Leaders or the lead…. It’s whatever YOU want it to mean

  72. Nicholas Juma Wanyama says:

Do you know only Priests and Levites received tithes? Today every born again brother and sister is a priest and a Levite.

    1 Peter 2:9
[9]But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Yes we must give to Church and missionary work but should be called by another name and not tithe. Tithe in old testament was for the need and only agricultural products, whenever was turned into money was eaten at home with the needy and not brought into the temple.

  73. Joshua Jackson says:

We need to teach about it and what it meant as a command for the Jews, but for us, we also need to teach 2 Corinthians 9:7 “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

  74. Adeyemo Temidayo says:

Only if you want to teach the spiritual reality that the old testament tithe means in the new testament. The same way we teach what the passover means to us in the new testament dispensation.

  75. Nene Katey Aklie says:

Pastors will always yes to this one. But there is absolutely nothing wrong if one decides they want to give a portion of their earnings to the church. It is indeed commendable simply because it helps further the work of God. What would be wrong is using it to define the quality of a person’s faith leading to works thinking. Salvation has absolutely nothing to do with tithe or the thief on the cross Wouldnt have made heaven. My attempt at an explanation.

  76. Kent Martin says:

    Yes it’s biblical

  77. Geren Ambrose says:

    No, Christian Giving.

  78. James Clary says:

Church should teach scripture..and tithing is in there

  79. Craig Rogers says:

Yep, absolutely! Tithes and offerings, above the tithe! The enemy has a foothold here convincing people the tithe is just O.T. , trying to starve the church. Show me the scripture where Jesus or the Apostles repudiate the tithe. No opinions please, just clear citations from the Word!

  80. Christie Antonio says:

If you’re a thither you will understand it and will want to keep doing it with all your heart. You know and have experienced the benefits of doing it.

  81. Duane L Burgess says:

No. That was a requirement for Israel, 2 tithes per year, and 1 every three years, to support the Theocracy. Anyone believe in giving 23.333 %? You are free to do so if you choose.

We are saved by grace, we live by grace, and we give by grace. Not grudgingly or under compulsion. We give as we purpose in our heart and as God provides; and we give sacrificially.

Tithing is never taught in Scripture in the Church.

  82. Kim Kay says:

    Yes

  83. Rene Angeles says:

Here’s a conversation between two professing Christians.

  84. Robin Nohea David says:

Teach??? It’s the whole purpose of the American Prosperity teaching. Look at the MEGA Theaters. BTW… We, the children of God are the church. Not the building.

  85. Linda Rosa-Torres says:

    OT Tithing is 10%.
NT you give your ALL. 100%

  86. Anthony Bryant Sr. says:

Tithing is not a New Testament concept, a New Covenant teaching along with the teaching of the keeping of the Sabbath.

Galatians 3; and Romans 3; we are saved by grace not by the keeping of the Law, it is not by works are we saved.

  87. PastorRandy says:

The church should teach generous giving, led by the Holy Spirit, not only to the institution, but to the beggar on the street.
