IS THE THIEF A GOOD GUIDE OR EXAMPLE FOR MY SALVATION TODAY?

The Testator can change the will while He was alive. Once He died, the Testator’s Will is in FULL FORCE: Repent and be immersed FOR the remission of your sins so you can be saved.
With this understanding I’d like to know what the people here think.

because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living.
Jesus’s will or last will and testament had to be probated and that didn’t take place till fifty days (Pentecost) later in Acts 2.
We all understand the passage in Hebrews that asserts that a will can be changed by the will maker while he’s still alive and this is what happened with the thief.
The thief was without question under the Old Covenant. Jesus also while in the flesh had authority that He does not now have since he’s out of the flesh.
The will can be changed while the testator lives. after he dies the will is in full force.
Heb 9:17
For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. -
The thief was under the Law.

He repented. Galatians says the Law is our Schoolteacher. ‘Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Gal 3:24 KJV. No Conviction and Repentance from Sin = No Salvation.

Stealing or thieving (if that is a word) is ignorance to God’s plan. And what do the bible say? People suffer because of lack of knowledge (hosea 4:6)

All scripture is good for learning and example of life. The thief, also. But he was kind of a special case, in the presence of God Incarnate…and God can do whatever He wants…

He is the exception to the rule. The rule is repent of your sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord. Once that happens you are baptized into the body of Christ. The race isn’t over, it has just begun. Now you go into strict training to become righteous, maintain holiness, increase in loving God via a love/faith/obedient relationship with Jesus until death.

I think he is an excellent indicator fir just how God’s mercy works. Let’s look at what we know about him. He was a their who had either stolen so much that he was facing the ultimate punishment, or that he had stolen something do valuable that he was facing death. Now according to what we can assume he had been imprisoned for a time knowing his punishment. He had also heard if Jesus we can assume. Yet the two had never met. Okay so here we have a man who has been waiting on his punishment maybe for a week or a month. Now he is nailed to a cross slowly suffocating, and what does he do? He starts tslking about salvation and the after life with a man he had never met. Jesus tells him that not only will he save him, but that he will be in Paradise when he dies. Now look at the grace here. God gave this men one chance to believe. And it was at his execution. And yet in that moment with no chance to undo his sins, Jesus told him he would be in Heaven. No the thief is not a great example of how to live. He is a great example of God’s mercy, and faiths ability to change people

The thief is a testament of salvation being purely a gift and not of works. We learn that faith and trust in Jesus is key. He didn’t even have time to demonstrate repentance but yet he made it instantly to heaven even ahead of the apostles

There is one deathbed conversion in the Bible, so no dying man will despair. There is ONLY one, so no living man will presume.

Of course it is. God doesn’t place a great example right on the day Jesus and that redeemed man spoke to each other, where Jesus promised to be him with in Paradise on that very same day, without it meaning something vitally significant about entering into His Kingdom.
He sealed it in the most wonderful way. That moment when Jesus died, God tore the veil of the temple in two. The Lamb was slain for that man. So, yes! The redeemed man and Jesus together in Paradise…. oh, what a beautiful picture for us of the Living Hope that is in Jesus Christ alone! Praise His Holy name!!

What people don’t understand about the thief’s story is that there is actually a beautiful image of ALL of humanity on the 2 crosses behind Jesus. Both men were guilty, yet the one who repented gained eternal life with the Father. Though he still had to experience a physical death, as all flesh does, he gained a new eternity and his sins were made clean by the Blood of the Lamb.

Of course not! We are not to wait until we are going to die to become a Christian. God wants us to repent TODAY. We are not to put it off. Jesus rejected the people who wanted to do something else first before following him. On the other hand, it isn’t too late until we die. But if we don’t want to become a Christian until the last day, are we really repenting? Seems to me we are NOT wanting to repent. We are wanting to live like a heathen and then get a free ticket even though we REFUSED TO REPENT prior. Repent means TRUE REGRET, truly being sorry. Waiting on purpose to repent is NOT repentance at all so one would not be saved!

The thief’s recognition of Jesus as King is exactly the example we should all follow. We are all just as guilty, whether we’ve been caught or not, of damning sin and in need of the Savior’s grace.

The thief is there to prove that anyone that asks will receive salvation.

Only if you’re hangin’ on a cruel Roman cross next to someone who has the authority and power to forgive you’re sins… and you confess those sins…

The apostle Paul is our example for salvation today by grace through faith.

Both the men crucified with Jesus are in the Bible to teach us. They represent the two halves of humanity, the rebel outside grace and the repentant with Jesus in paradise
