my first question on this platform; what is the difference between speaking in tongue and praying in tongues? What is wrong with praying in tongue in church without others present understanding what am saying? Pls i indeed answers from scholars and matured theologians on the platform pls.

In praying in tongues the language is known to God. You are fine since He is who you are praying to anyways. Scripture also says the Holy Spirit helps you when you don’t know what to pray when you pray in tongues.

Paul when he writes on tongues say if there is no interpreter don’t do it. Aservice is for edification of all not just your self and if you are going to pray flor all then they need to understand what you are saying. Else go in your closet and pray for as much good you are doing the group.

Paul literally wrote an entire chapter on how to use the gift of tongues in a church setting. He also says that people will speak and “NO ONE will understand him because he speaks mysteries in the spirit” and only God understands. I used to also be vehemently against the gift of tongues for my entire life until it happened to me and God radically changed my views on it in an instant. The naysayers on this topic have to ignore entire passages to form their doctrine about this as I once did.

1 Cor 14:2 says that when one speaks in a tongue he’s speaking mysteries in the Spirit to God, therefore, all instances of speaking in tongues is essentially prayer.
As far as being in church:
“Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.”

Actual tongues, as noted in the Acts, were given as a gift to the 1st-Century Church as a tool to rapidly promulgate the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the known World. In his letter to the Church at Corinth, Paul addresses an abuse of the Gift of Tongues where the paganism of speaking in an ecstatic utterance originating at the nearby pagan Temple at Delphi had carried over into the Corinthian Church. A pagan priestess sat atop a throne-type object and while inhaling intoxicating substances, she would deliver “oracles” of prophecy to awaiting patrons and her gibberish and unintelligible nonsense often times left the patrons leaving more confused than when they entered the Temple at Delphi seeking knowledge and guidance.
This pagan ritual carried over into the Corinthian Church and Paul had his hands full dealing with the nonsense that was resulting in great disruption/confusion; unfortunately, this very same heresy and paganism of speaking in an ecstatic utterance has consumed Pentecostalism and other Charismatic Churches around the World; in fact, the most injurious demonic doctrine espoused by these “Churches” is the requirement to speak in an ecstatic utterance as confirmation of one’s salvation.
I once taught in such a Church and was required to “teach” young students how to speak in a tongue…I immediately recognized the false doctrine and left that ministry. Today, millions of sincerely seeking men and women are put into demonic bondage by Pentecostalism/Charismata as they can never be assured of their salvation as they don’t speak in a tongue yet attempt to fake a gift to belay a burden, a doubt, a worry, a fear, of Hell that our Lord Jesus Christ NEVER meant for them to carry.

Both are an supernatural event .
To speak in tongues is to speak In a language other than the heart tongue like it was when the 120 were filled by the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in different languages. Yet the people heard their dialect as the 120 people spoke.
Praying in tongues is similar to and the same being it is the result of the Holy Spirit speaking through you as in helping the person to pray the “perfect prayer” unto heaven whom God understands such language.
The heaven speaking is the evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit, Gods spirit . The tongues and the languages are the work of the unfeeling Holy Spirit.

The 2 are the same.
People who are not filled with the Holy Ghost should be careful not to advise and fall into blasphemous. Especially if you’ve never spoken in tongues at all.
One is filled with the Spirit of the living God. I wouldn’t speak on him and having no experience with him.
He is the one speaking through the person. So when people say tongues stop, or I don’t believe, or it is fake they are talking directly to the Lord himself. .
I am filled 30 yrs and speak in tongues. Poster it is best to ask people who are filled.

You can pray in tongues all you want by yourself, if you’re not forcing it to happen. Speaking in tongues to others should only be done if there is an immediate interpreter and can only be done by 3 people at most in any gathering.
“How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.”

The notion that deity enters in and does not bear undeniable internal witness is unbiblical and a false teaching. As the Apostle declares, “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (Romans 8:16) None other can contend. The internal witness & calling is irresistible and undeniable. HIS will overwhelms our will and makes us willing nay even desiring and craving to do his will.

Spent a few years in a Charismatic sect. Mostly the women would break out in tongues, nearly always without interpretation. But there was a young man there who would pray in tongues quietly to himself. He was always pleasant and never tried to pressure me to “develop” a prayer language, as they called it… as many were in the habit of doing. I have never desired such a gift. Would rather have revelation from above. Do I believe it is still given? Yes… because of the one young man. Do I believe it is essential? I know for a certainty that it is not. Those who tried pressuring me just wanted to glory in their own selves if I should give in to their desires. They knew nothing of my conversion or my walk with God to that point. My experience…

My pastor says.. praying in tongues is for self edification. Probably in the sense when you don’t know what to pray for and you just allow the Holy Spirit to pray. But God understands prayer whether it is in spiritual tongues or an actual language. It’s not as if praying in Hebrew is better than English. It’s the same to God.
To put it simply. It’s just groaning and sounds. If I drop a dumbbell on your foot, your scream is not in the dictionary, but anyone listening to it knows you’re in distress or pain.

If speaking in tongues brings about the separation to the body of Christ i will suggest it should be put aside not to see the body of Christ torned apart this way…some believe if you don’t speak in tongues you won’t see the kingdom of God…some says if you speak in tongues you’re lost…..a greate division of the century
