Finally, in Jewish history, we look back at events on June 3rd. In 350 AD, the Roman usurper Nepotianus proclaimed himself Emperor, a development within the Constantinian Dynasty which had established Christianity in the Roman Empire, often to the considerable distress of the Jewish people. Centuries later, on June 3rd, 1098, during the First Crusade, Antioch fell to the crusaders after an eight-month siege, a pivotal moment that cleared the path to Jerusalem, where the Christians would eventually capture the city and tragically slaughter its Jewish inhabitants. And in 1140, French scholar Peter Abelard was found guilty of heresy.
