How was this and similar images determined as pictures representing G-d/Lord/Son of God?

Isaiah 53:2-4… There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!

People often see Jesus through their own cultural perspectives.

That’s not the picture I have of one descended of Jews in the Middle East. But it is quite similar to the picture shoved in our faces when referencing him.

Be honest with yourself, how many of you all picture this Greco-Roman white dude (with his Zorastrian aura) when you’re praying?

Artists’ renditions are just that. if we are looking to Art as actual representations of how things are…..well that would just be dumb.

I have a problem with this picture. If it weren’t for the beard he could easily pass as a woman. Look, Jesus was Semitic, and quite Jewish. Black hair, dark brown eyes, medium brown skin (or olive as some like to say), average unassuming looks (according to Isaiah), hair and beard length – unknown. I personally like Johnathan Roumie’s depiction (‘The Chosen’) the best.

Here’s what we know about the looks of Jesus. He was unremarkable. Who cares how his appearance is portrayed by artists? We don’t worship his image.

This image was very deceiving and political. When people showed up looking like this to the evangelized this kind of person was more closely associated with God the Son. It was about conquering, not evangelizing.

Jesus has been depicted in every color scheme imaginable. He created us in every color scheme imaginable. Somehow I do not think He minds. <3

Simple..it wasn’t….in fact it’s most likely just an open rebellion to the prohibition against the creation of images declared by our creator God.

Dude, Thou shall not create for yourself any graven images.. Please interpret your scriptures correctly. The restriction is against idol worship. Many of the works of art over the last 2 millennia have nothing to do with graven image worship.
