Please whoever reads this I need prayer. I struggle with substance abuse. Have since I was fourteen. I know that it’s a choice I dont want sympathy, I want to change. so badly but I just can’t seem to beat it for more then a month or so. Ive talked with people at my church about it. Been to rehab. I thought I had it beat but the relapses keep coming and I don’t know what else to do..I want my joy and peace back that i have when I walk with god

I don’t know if you have tried Celebrate Recovery but I strongly recommend it. It’s a 12-step group that is specifically Bible-based (instead of being vaguely “higher power based” like AA is). I went through the 12 steps with Celebrate Recovery, and have now been sober for almost 22 months and am a better Christian for it too. There are chapters of it that meet at churches throughout the country every week, and the “find a group near you” link is below. It’s kind of hard right now because quarantines and social distancing means lots of groups can’t gather until the Coronavirus stuff relaxes, but again I highly recommend checking into this and I am praying for you right now.

Seek Jesus with all your heart. I struggled with alcohol and my solution today is to get on my knees every morning. I Humble myself before Him. I pray (praise, repent, ask, yield) to Him. It is always His will to be done and not my own. I read His word every hour in the beginning if I had to. We all should seek Jesus in a way that demonstrates He is the only thing we thirst for. But especially if we are in a spiritual battle you have to pick up your armor and fight. I’m praying for you. ??

What is impossible with Him man is possible with God.The fruit of the Holy Spirit is self control. Your problem is failure to control yourself. May the Holy Spirit enable to have dominion over substance. Man was created to have dominion over God’s Creation and not creation over man.

Ben, I’m praying for you and I think it’s incredibly brave, strong, and faithful of you to confess and seek help. You clearly love God, don’t let the enemy influence you into thinking you don’t love God enough when all you’re trying to do is to get better. Seek God and pray that He helps you see and reveal what you need to know and do to rid of this addiction. Call out to His presence the next time and I will be praying that you feel His presence over you and instead of slipping into substance you will rest in His perfect peace and find strength in His love for you.

I’m the youngest of 3 boys and my mom started abusing alcohol after my dad passed in a car accident.They all barely listened to me as a teen, so I went out to do anything and everything until I decided to say yes to church 10 years later. The community there was great and I just wanted something like that for my mom and brothers.
My first year in church I verbally forgave her for how bad I felt she was to me when I needed her most. Every year she drank less and less because I changed and wanted a powerful relationship with her that we never had. She’s quit and started again many times, but now she’s been clean for so long and it’s been 5 years into my walk with God.
So this is what worked for us:
-Get your fam together And have the tough conversations about forgiving and loving each other.
-Get your friends together and do the same.
-Tell them you need community to help you be in a better place. -
Praying sir. I have my own struggles but I still keep praying.

Ask God about your situation Sir , but one thing im sure , God is love and God can forgive all our sin when we repent , and never make Sin Over and over..life is a choice Sir..God bless u and all ur families and loveones!

I will keep you in prayer, my brother. God knows your struggles, He isn’t ignorant of them, nor does he expect you to fight that battle alone. First know that Christ has already won the war. Second, he fights with you every moment. Hang in there, victory is at hand. Victory may not come in the form you expect but in hope God defines it. You may struggle with that addiction the rest of your life or not but his grace and love will sustain you for His glory. He will not abandon you

Hi Ben, you are not alone, all people have their own struggles on different levels but if you repent of your sin and turn your life to Jesus as Lord and Savior, you have to live according to His Word and apply it in faith. Surrender it everyday, every minute. it’s the work of the Holy Spirit to sanctify us using the Word of God. Meaning separate us from darkness to light by the power of God’s Word. Memorizing the scriptures will help. I suggest that you meditate this: Joshua 1:8 and Philippians 4:8 to start with.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. – Hebrews 11:1 -
Speaking with experience the main thing that you kept saying was “I”. Give it to Jesus, there is no way that “I/you” can do it by yourself. It is a battle every day, every hour and evey minute. The Spiritual warfare that is going on behind The scenes will blow your mind. Fight it by using Gods word and alot of prayer. Seriously bro give it to Jesus. Roman 2:12 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Be transformed by Jesus he will not let you down. Im praying for you. -

Addiction is a very difficult thing I’ve never dealt with it myself but I lost my brother who battled this and I have a close friend who also battle substance abuse. My husband and I will pray and fast for you every Monday. We all need to battle together on our knees to break the stronghold of this addiction. The enemy will not win your soul
ultimately! Jesus loves you and He is able to restore your joy! Don’t listen to Satan’s lies that you are never going to win. This isn’t true because you stand as already victorious as you are robed in righteousness because the blood of Christ was shed for you and it covers all you’ve done and will ever do! Get an accountability partner and tell him EVERYTHING about your problem. That includes when and how you feel most vulnerable to your flesh
Have regular times when you get together and talk about your temptations and how you are dealing with them.
Most importantly, when you start to feel yourself ready to give in, call immediately and talk.
This person must be someone that you trust implicitly because you will be opening yourself up to gossip if you trust someone who is not responsible and sensitive to your wellbeing.
And thank the Lord daily for that day’s victory.
What you’ve started is a good step because some here can put you on their daily prayer list asking for strength from the Lord.

This is a spirit. The spirit of addiction. You can go to all the rehab you want, but it won’t help that type of stronghold because it’s an unclean spirit. I used to have that as well. I’ve been clean 6 years this month. Anyways, Scripture tells us some spirits can only be casted out by prayer and fasting. Also there’s deliverance from someone who is high ranking in the Holy Spirit. Many people do not understand the spiritual realm therefore they shun upon what they don’t know as they will below. Bro as a christain, I too struggle with things myself. I wanna drink every night (not to get drunk). Just as a social with the wife, but I’ve realised it’s too much, not normal etc. It’s hard giving it up. I’ve taken the hard step of deciding not to drink mid week, but only at weekends. It’s hard but I’m forcing myself. I guess what you could say is, it’s baby steps. I would encourage you to take baby steps as well. Theres no way on earth you’re gonna drop the habit over night… you need to wean it down slowly. Good luck brother

John MacArthur says in his book Saved Without A Doubt that you can ask God to give you a hatred for your sin in the same kind of way God hates your sin. Ask Him to help you to devote your heart to Him. Ask Him for freedom from idolatry because He has already commanded His people in the Old and New Testaments to turn away from idolatry, He will give you the power to turn away from it, since within His commandments is the power inherent in them to follow through with them. He commands the ocean not to overstep his boundaries for them. The ocean obeys Him. He senses this sin is breaking your heart, and is deeply compassionate with the feelings of our infirmities. Keep praying and I believe your faith will get stronger. God feeds your faith through the scriptures. Keep His promises before your eyes and anchor yourself in them. Praying for you.

Let it go. Only the Lord has the power for change. It’s not in you. Self reformation is worthless. Give your addition to the Lord and leave it there. Don’t associate with past people who are also addicted and don’t hobto places where that experience reminds you. Every day is NEW with the Lord. Every day will be NEW for you as well. I know it’s hard, but Jesus said my burden is light. Casting all your cards on Him for He careth for you! The Lord has work for you to do. A Purpose only you can fulfill, a Place only you can go and a People only you can reach.

Relapse happens. Addiction happens! Don’t be so hates on yourself when it does. Self GUILT will keep you there. You can’t beat it. It’s not your job.
Let GOD have at it. Give it to HIM even if in the midst of it. Forgive yourself as GOD has already forgiven you. He will keep forgiving you. You have been freed from all addictions in The Name of Jesus Christ. He has already done the work for you. Just accept it and live in that fact by staying In The Word! Hey Ben, really sorry to hear you sad and difficult story. I guess the fact that your posting here means you haven’t lost hope. Keep getting up every time you stumble, by God’s grace hopefully very soon you’ll stay up…Its a battle we can’t win in our own strength…or at least that is what I have found…Abide in Jesus. I’m not asking out of judgment, just concern and an honest attempt to get to the root of your problem. There are several scriptures in the Bible which associate healing with the forgiveness of sin. Are there other sins in your life, besides substance abuse, which need to be confessed by you and forgiven by God? Are you harboring unforgiveness toward anyone else? Anything obvious others might bring to your attention? Here are a couple most people overlook: tithing, YES it is commanded in the NT as well as the Old, and observing the Sabbath, just one day a week where you rest from the work you usually do so that your body and brain have a break.
I was praying for you just now, and God impressed upon me to ask if you’ve received the gift of the Holy Spirit, or if you are trying to beat this without His power living within you? Just something to think about. I’ll be praying for you! God’s got you, just keep trusting Him! -
