One needs to find the Festival that was being celebrated at that time. Israel had a string of festival and also not a single Sabbath – So Jesus died on a Wednesday He spend the following periods in the grave 1. Wed evening 2. Thurs day Thurs evening 3. Friday day Fri Evening 4. Sat day – He rose Sat evening and the disciples discovered Sun day that he had risen. Remember the Jewish days started with the evening. So He three nights (evening) and three days in the tomb.

  10. Dwight Osborne says:

Jesus said He would be there 3 days and 3 nights. The day parts are Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The nite parts are Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He was resurrected sometime after sunset Sunday nite but before sunrise Sunday morning. Lest any of you be confused remember that the Bible is based on God’s timeline and His calendar, not the western calendar as established by Julian or was it Gregory/ Nevertheless, on God’s timeline the day starts in the evening and continues until the next. Even if Jesus were only in the tomb for 1 minute on Thursday, Jewish theology deems that as a day, not a 24-hour day but as the day of Thursday. He held to Jewish theology and His statement had nothing to do with hours just a specific number of days and nights

  11. Bob Jones says:

Three days and three nights, in those days the Jews counted any part of a a day as an entire day so Friday night was one day, All dY Saturday and Saturday night was day two, and at sunset, Would start Sunday till He rose from the grave so there we ha e three days and three nights. He died on Friday and rose on Sunday

  12. Norm P. Sweeting says:

I heard James Boyce explain why he believed Christ was sacrificed on Thursday by referencing a dating schema that by calendar had 2 feasts that particular week on successive days. Ever hear of that?

  13. Steven Wells says:

    3jewish days and nights

  14. Tee Tee says:

3 days and 3 nights he was abandoned by his disciples like Jonah in the belly of the whale all alone. But he ROSE ON THE 3RD DAY.

So thats Friday he died that’s the 1st day, Saturday in the grave and Sunday which is the 3rd day he then rose. So he rose ON the 3rd day
