The mormon church changed their name to church of Christ, latter day saints to identify themselves with other Christian denominations. They send out a “missionary pair” on missions, accompanied by the “book of mormon” and claim to be spreading the Gospel of Jesus.

As one of their members put it; “Roman Catholics, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Seventh-Day Adventists, and Latter-Day Saint Mormons are just as Christian as ANY Christian out there.:”

(1) Can they be considered Christians?

(2) Are they a different religious group, like the church of scientology?

(3) Are they a religious cult?

    They have a different Jesus of the Bible, so no, they are NOT christian. It doesn’t matter what they say.

    There are several things they believe which are not Biblical. They believe Jesus is not God, they can become a god, salvation by works and many other things.

    I was a member for 22 years and most of that time I stayed because of my wife, kids and the culture. Luckily we all left nearly 2 years ago and are attending a non denominational bible based church. The lds church also uses “eternal family” as a tool to keep members trapped. I am now attending an online Bible college program.

    Even tho half of the SDA beliefs in what Ellen G White says, not all do, some are aware that she’s a false prophet but still follow the doctrines the church possesses, which are backed up by scripture and study the word of God so they can be considered Christians, as long as they’re not Ellen G White following SDAs

    Hi, I’ve been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 12 years now. It has not changed its name. “Mormon” was a nickname given to us because we beleive in Book of Mormon as well as the Bible. Theres a lot of false ideas about what we beleive on Facebook and all over the Internet. If you want to know what we ACTUALLY beleive, feel free to message me. 🙂 God bless

    They have to believe the basic tenents of Christianity. Since they dont, they are not Chritians and cant see God in heaven because they havent put their trust in the death and ressurection of Christ , Who is the true God amd was raised in the flesh in his mortal body!

    I think they are technically a Christian ‘sect’ like jehovahs witnesses. It means they share some doctrinal similarity with orthodox Christianity but they also differ in some fundamental, core doctrines. For example, JW’s deny Christ’s divinity. Mormons are ultimately polytheist in theology. ‘Cult’ is more of a social science term referring to the groups structure and how members are attracted and kept within the group. For example, cults usually have a leader who has divine or near-divine status, and they usually demand followers cut ties to their previous lives entirely. So I wouldn’t say Mormons fit the ‘cult’ label. But their theology definitely has severe issues.

    The core of the issue is Joseph Smith — true prophet of God or con artist? The latter essentially concludes: Joseph Smith didn’t actually “translate” from one language to another, but rather simply received a revelation from God (using Urim and Thummim) and therefore his truth rises above any issues with the source text. If Joseph Smith is NOT a prophet, then all of the additional “truth” of the LDS is suspect and may very well prevent it’s members from saving knowledge of Christ.

    A Church teaches the TRUE Gospel of Jesus Christ! The Mormons do not qualify! A REAL Christian is a person who is saved by the REAL Gospel! Soooooooo, no, the Mormons, Catholics, JW’s, SDA along with many others, are NOT Christians!!!

    Saying Mormons are Christian is like saying Muslims are Christian.
    Both:
    1. claim to worship the God of Israel
    2. Claim to believe the Bible WITH CAVEATS
    3. Claim that Jesus has special standing
    HOWEVER, both:
    1. have their own, separate scripture that supercedes the Bible – where the Bible conflicts with their doctrine, the Bible is explained away as having errors or as having been changed over time (Mormons use the “telephone game” as an analogy – all the while, their own BOM has been purposefully changed (it originally was monotheistic))
    2. Look to their prophets for truth before looking to Jesus
    3. Have completely different descriptions of who their god is which differs from the God described in the Bible
    4. Do not believe that Jesus saved us (Mormons claim they do believe this but they give themselves credit via good works and converting others – Jesus only saves them “after all they can do”.
    5. Believe that those who are not members of their specific sect are apostate/infidels
    6. Deny or excuse wrongs committed by their founding prophet.

    It’s a cult. Many people have witnessed that they hold Satanic rituals in the main temple in Utah and that nearly every single Mormon family in the city has incest in it .

    Christian Apologetics you denied my post I tried to put up about Calvinism saying we hAve to respect other people’s beliefs because we are all in this together but you allow this post up about Mormonism making comments to debunk a certain doctrine (that of course is false) however my point is how is it fair he can make statements about Mormonism being a wrong teaching but I can’t make comments about Calvinism being a wrong teaching (because it is)
