Which of the three would you say best fits the process of Sanctification? I ask because I have heard all three answers from different people. To me according to God’s word I understand sanctification as both, immediate and ongoing. What do you say and why?
Not immediate! God has been so patient with me, it’s ridiculous. I.e., it took me two years after being born again to even try quitting my daily pot habit… which I did, haven’t smoked since!
In Christ we are definitively sanctified and by the Spirit we are progressively sanctified.
There are a couple meanings to sanctification, so I’m going to say both. We are set apart from the world for God (Royal priesthood, holy nation, God’s people, etc – 1 Pt 2:9-10). We are also growing in our faith like seeds develop into full grown plants (Mt 13:1-9). The first happened when we came to faith, the second happens through a life of faith.
Sanctification is the process we go through from accepting Jesus Christ until we stand before Him. It is what the Bible speaks of as “the perfecting of the saints.”
The initial acknowledgment of what Jesus did for us is “Justification;” as our faith in our Lord and Saviour is accounted to us as Righteousness. L&P
I believe it depends on the context, and or definition. Sanctification, set aside for God’s to use. No one comes to the son unless the father draws him. When you accept the Sun as your Redeemer you have been sanctified and all further acts of sanctification hang on this original sanctification. Much like all the Commandments hanging on the first two Commandments. As we grow into a new creature, we become more useful for the father’s purpose, if you want to see this as more sanctification there shouldn’t be a big issue over that. Sanctification is like being pregnant you either are or you are not. One month being pregnant is no different than being 6 months pregnant. There is the question, will you carry the baby to term? Will you take your hand from the plow and look back, will you return to the dirty water once you are washed clean, will you forget what was preached unto you, will you neglect all the warnings, take heed, beware Etc
I’d say you’re forgetting a key word, justification.
Justification is immediate, sanctification is ongoing.
Let’s all go back to the three tense of sanctification “positional, progressive and ultimate.” If one understand these three then you can draw ur conclusion.

This depends on how you define sanctification.
I look at it as being BOTH because sanctification is God separating for Himself, someone or something, AND making it holy.
So God HAS sanctified the elect already. The immediate effect of this sanctification is justification where we are declared righteous by God Himself. It is a one-sided work of the HS regenerating us. It does not require our cooperation.
On the other hand the time-measured process of the HS ridding us from sin and forming us into the image of Christ is our ongoing sanctification. Here we are called to cooperate with the HS as he changes our behavior to reflect to inward change occurring when we were justified.

Yes, past present and future when we get to Heaven we are completely sanctified. It is an ongoing growth process.

I understand it as both also. GOD calls us to be Holy. JESUS IS the TRUE VINE, and if I stay Surrendered and seeking and in HIS WORD I can….Be..and..stay pure.

Both, we are set apart the moment we’re sealed by the spirit, and as we abide in christ we produce fruit, and as we produce fruit the Father prunes that we would produce much fruit.
