In the beginning God said let their be light. Then he divided the light from the dark into day and night….later he creates the sun and the moon. A day later he creates the stars in the sky. How did we have light before stars?

Some believe God was that original light. Doesn’t NT say something to the effect >>God is light.<< I am not trying to present a scientific answer here. -
Creation was mot a natural event. We are dealing with God here not men. He was there, we were not.

Light os not something bound to stars. Electromagnetic energy is something found everywhere. The big bang prolly exploded in light, for example.

There was no light at all. Gods manifest glory illuminated the globe entirely.

Everything was created in verse 1. Something happened between verse 1 and 2(fall of satan). The “cleanup” began in verse 3 yet everything already existed. This is called the “gap theory” which many mainstream scholars reject but it does have surprisingly solid support and even Chuck Missler loosely ascribed to it but said we must be careful not to speculate specific details beyond what scripture tells us as the mysterious things of the universe belong to God which we will know more fully in eternity.

Our Almighty God do not need any of the three (3) types of (physical) lights (but us) for He is a much better light (John 1:4). Besides the light that He is surpasses any light we can ever think of or ever imagine (John 1:5).
He was the light (and He is the light and will ALWAYS be the light) in the beginning (Genesis 1:1, John 1:1).

There are other sources of light. God Himself is actually a light. The sun and moon were later designed as signs, meaning God always intended a day to be 24 hours. Think of the celestial bodies as basically a giant clock. They exist to symbolise a pre-existing reality.

God does not need the sun, moon, and stars to provide light to His own creation. God is light!1 John 1:5

It helps to look at the original language.
When God created the heavens and the earth, the word is BARA, meaning you create out of nothing
The word BARA is only used on days 1,5 and 6
The remaining days a word meaning loosely to prepare or to produce or to fashion something that already exists into something else. But it never means to create out of nothing.
Taking that literally, when God created the heavens and the earth, that includes basically all the material in the universe.
On days 2,3 and 4 God does something to make that day glorious to Him. I don’t understand it but I accept it.

The light could be the BIG BANG. When pure energy formed matter.
Just my opinion.We have to understand though that the creation narrative in Genesis used to be passed on through tongue for countless generations by anciemt people who doesnt know science. It is somehow an approximation. A lot has happened before it was written. It is possible that it was not a literal 7 days of creation.
But oviously to God it could be since he is beyond time and space.
Even science has discovered that time is relative and can be manipulated.
God can make something feel like a second to him, but a thousand years has elapsed. (2Pet3:8)
Its something we cant comprehend.
Thats why Science and God are in harmony. -
When he created the stars he did out of preexisting material. He placed them in their position in the sky but they were already created on the first day

The explanation for this is simple when you see the text for what it is and not what it isn’t – a science text book. The author did not realise that daylight is reflected sunlight. He thought that the sun is an extra light on top of daylight, which also serves as a kind of clock to signal day. Read the text that way and it suddenly fits together without weirdness.

Well you have to understand that the person that put this down in writing for the very first time would have had the same questions and yet he still obediently recorded it it’s because God is not man and God created light he did not have to have a light source to generate light he created light just by speaking it into existence.

HOW GOD CREATED THE UNIVERSE
1. When God said
IN the beginning God created the heaven d the earth. It means God created the Earth only.The space above the Earth is the havens and the heaven is still empty.
2. When God said Let there e light, that was the time God put something in heaven which is the space above the Earth. God created the Sun.
3. When God said:and he separated the light from the darkness.
It means God created only one source of light which is the Sun. At the other side of the Earth is darkness since the light FROM THE Sun cannot illuminate the back part of the Earth.

It means God let the Earth rotate around its axis in 24 hours,

It means God created the sky to let water goes up to produce rain in preparation with the creation of plants and trees.

It means God let the Earth rotate around the Sun in 365 days.
6. When God said:God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night.
It means God created the moon in the heaven which is the space above the Earth.

It is used in “he made the sun moon and stars”.It is used in the past perfect tense. Refers to v1. The face of the earth was dark in the beginning. It changed to translucent on day 1 and to transparent on day 4. The Universe was created before day 1. Basic Hebrew.

Could have meant in the beginning God said let there be light (understanding). Understanding who God is, that is the light of the world. When a figure of speech is applied it should enhance the meaning not down play it.

Think of the Big Bang. The energy exploded, stars formed later. Light existed without physical stars as science has shown. Stars are merely a vessel which can generate light, not the ultimate source.

Everyone here needs to research “The Faint Young Sun Paradox” which also seems to find this problem in science. Apparently, there was some kind of light on the early earth, producing liquid water and greenhouse gases long before the actual sun would’ve had a chance to grow large enough to reach the earth. So some kind of light was “here”, mysteriously, before the sun light was.
