2022 Azusa Lecture
We have much to be thankful for when we consider that the Church of God is now ministering in 187 nations and territories of the world! We can also rejoice that we are part of a larger Pentecostal/Charismatic movement that is the fastest growing family of Christianity. At the Dixon Pentecostal Research Center our mission is to preserve our heritage for today’s church and for coming generations.
Each year the Dixon Pentecostal Research Center sponsors a public Azusa Lecture to remember and celebrate what God is doing in these last days. On Thursday, November 10, at 7:00 p.m., Dr. Julie Martinez will present “From Jerusalem to Pyongyang: Local Experiences of the Global Pentecostal Movement.” The outpouring of the Spirit that began in Jerusalem reached what is now the capital of North Korea early in the twentieth century!
Dr. Martinez is Director of the Intercultural Studies Program and Assistant Professor of Intercultural Studies at Lee University. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Serving Orphans Worldwide and previously served as the People for Care and Learning Country Director for Cambodia. Prior to her eleven years of ministry in Cambodia, Dr. Martinez served twelve years as a Church of God missionary in Zambia, Chile, and Honduras.
As is our practice, we also will present the Spirit of Azusa Award. We are honoring Dr. Peter Thomas for his global Pentecostal leadership. Dr. Thomas is Field Director for Church of God Word Missions in Africa. A German citizen, who has served in Africa since 1979 as pastor, teacher, national overseer, regional educational coordinator, regional superintendent, and field director, Dr. Thomas exemplifies the intercultural nature of the Church of God’s global ministry. Following the award presentation, we will host a reception in Dr. Thomas’s honor.
I invite you to join us in the Lee University Chapel on the corner of Ocoee and 11th Streets. If you are unable to attend in person, we will livestream at leeu.live and facebook.com/dixonprc. I have attached a flyer with the details!
I look forward to seeing you on November 10!
