Good evening, and welcome to #ourCOG Daily Brief for March 14, 2026.

Today’s headlines are dominated by the ongoing conflict. Domestically, the war with Iran hasn’t galvanized the American public in the same way past conflicts have, even as President Trump’s critics question his govern-by-instinct approach to the endgame, while supporters laud his decisiveness. The conflict is also directly impacting American farmers, who are facing rising costs and disruptions in fertilizer supplies as Iran pinches the Strait of Hormuz. On the legislative front, America’s housing crisis saw a bipartisan bill clear the Senate, though it faces an uphill battle in the House. Meanwhile, the Jeffrey Epstein scandal continues to prompt universities to rethink their donor relationships, leading to resignations and tightened fundraising practices. Globally, the U.S. has expanded its bombing campaign to Iran’s critical islands, including Kharg Island, vital for its oil industry and national security. This disruption to oil shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz is forcing Asian countries, which relied heavily on that supply, to call for belt-tightening and confront their fossil fuel dependence. The war is also putting precious water resources in the Gulf region under severe threat.

In prophecy news, the Middle East conflict continues to unfold rapidly. President Trump announced today that the U.S. had “obliterated” military targets on Iran’s Kharg Island with “powerful bombing raids,” targeting a crucial oil hub. Just yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a direct threat to kill Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, following Israeli airstrikes in central Beirut. This comes after Israel launched “large-scale” strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Beirut on Wednesday. Experts are warning that Iran’s new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is reportedly “obsessed” with end times prophecy, believing himself to be a prophesied figure, the ‘Khorasani,’ tasked with conquering Jerusalem and Mecca to pave the way for the Mahdi.

Finally, looking at this day, March 13th, in Jewish history, we note several significant events. In 624, the Islamic forces under Muhammad were victorious at the Battle of Badr, solidifying the Moslem leader’s power. Later, in 1202, Mieszko III, the Duke of Greater Poland, known for employing Jews in his mint and even having coins with Hebraic markings, passed away. And in 1245, as the Mongols swept across Asia and Europe, Pope Innocent IV, who famously ordered the burning of countless Jewish books and Talmuds, issued a letter to the Mongols, pleading with them to cease their attacks on Christian nations.
