I think this question can be answered by asking if you think all things are predestined. Not just salvation. People take issue with predestined salvation, but most people believe other things in their life are predestined when they say “God knew such-and-such would happen. Nothing surprises God. He is sovereign over all things.”
If you believe God knows the future, then you can assume your future is set. This doesn’t mean you’ve lost your autonomy. You’re not a robot. Just because God knows what you will do doesn’t mean you never had the freedom to do it.
But also think of it from God’s perspective. The Holy Spirit reveals Himself to you when you experience your salvation moment. This is the moment when God reveals truth to you, offers salvation, and you respond. Well, this is an action being taken by God. He is acting upon you, by revealing Himself. Surely, since God knows the future, He foresaw the day in which He would be acting upon you. So your salvation moment was destined from eternity-past. God always knew He would choose to reveal Himself to you, offer the gift of life, and save you.
Election means To Choose.
He chose to reveal Himself to you and save you from your sins.
Aka “Predestined Election”
That’s how it makes sense to me, at least.

There is nothing in scripture that speaks of election unto salvation.

God designed Salvation it is wholly from and of him.
It that salvation that God designed, God does the forgiving and the sacrificing, yet none of it applies to anyone, unless they believe, humble themselves, proclaim him and everything else that says what a man must do to be saved.
now, doing those things does not pull Christ off the Cross, nor is it self-salvation and it is not works salvation, either.
I see it more a case of God has the names of the saved in his lambs book of life now but not so much as predestinate but because he dwells in the past present and future at the same time
John 3:16 answers the question.The choice is yours.But God knows who is going to accept the gift of salvation a gift that is offered to you cannot be yours unless you accept it.
God chooses us. We can only accept the gift of salvation, when God gives us a heart of flesh.

There are verses that suggest it and verses that deny it. There definitely is a meaning behind election and predestination because it’s in the Bible.
I may be wrong but to me, it doesn’t matter. God didn’t give us enough information to be absolutely certain so I take that to mean we don’t focus on that or make that the centerpiece of our theology.
I should add that God has, at times, jumped out and captured someone for a specific purpose.
Paul was an excellent example.

Salvation for anyone is always due to God’s decision. He may be gracious or not to anyone at any moment.
God wants all to be saved. If it were just a matter of predestination then why put Jesus through that?

Both, God gifts us with freewill. It is by His sovereignity that we have freewill. But our will is limited to our nature, another words, you do not have freewill to be a rock, but your free will allows you to agree or diagree with His Word. We are free to make a choice, but we are not free from the conciquences of our choices. Another way to think about it is when we think about love. If you were quarting your wife for a time and you both showed each other that you loved each other, this may seem like a freewill choice to love, but if you find out later that soneone was paying her to do those actions and to say it to you, you would be disspointed and upset because it wasnt love, that her actions werent freely made. So God gives us freewill that we can choose Him, or not too in order to love freely and think freely, but there is an accountability.

It depends on how you define freewill and predestination.
The problem for both positions is that it’s some measure of both because G-d’s nature and abilities are so large both are possible without infringing on the other. Us in our limited capacity can’t really fathom that.
So you can argue either position and provide solid biblical proofs. I prefer predestination because from G-d’s perspective it written in stone being all knowing. Other people prefer looking from the human side in which everything is unsure and unknown from the human perspective (though the promises of G-d are always sure and trustworthy).
Think of the trinity- three yet one. The idea seems impossible but just is. In the same way free will and predestination are compatible unless you take them to the extremes.
Read Ephesians 1 and Romans 8:28 through chapter 9 prayerfully and ask the Lord to show you.
NO. God predestined the way, not the person. Let’s be clear about this since we are all saved by faith, not by divine decree.

Yes, the debate continues on with the Calvinists and Arminians. But no one doesn’t need to look any further than Genesis about freedom of choice dealing with sin, falling from grace, and salvation in the account of Adam and Eve. And, this freedom of choice or free will continues on throughout Scripture in the Old Testament to the New Testament.

The remnant of the Jews that had faith in God, obeyed the commandments the best way they could. They also believed in a future deliverer that at the end would make all things right. Those people died in faith and thus inherited the promises of God that Jesus purchased with His own blood. Hebrews 11 is a good example.
Predestination has to do with the elect; its a corporate election and not an individual election. The elect are those in Christ and one is in Christ through faith.
That is a though one! I’ve been reading quite a bit recently on free will and I’m having a hard time with this subject. I’m sure I’m not the only one
Both, though the details of the answer varies depending on the soteriological position of the person who’s answering. Just like in eschatology (Doctrines about end times), we can never reach the point on where we could say “this is what the Scripture explicitly teaches”. Let this thing remind us that we can never fully resolve what’s in God’s mind using our finite understanding, as the Scripture teaches we can’t. Understanding of soteriological doctrines saves no one, only grace through faith in Jesus Christ that does

Both. But understand that God sees the beginning from the end, so though he chose you, that doesn’t mean you don’t have free will to change your mind. It’s just that God knows wimhich way it is going to go.

I tend to lean towards Molenism because it provides a way in which things like this can be harmonised. Look it up.

From a Calvinistic perspective, the elect are predestined. So yes to the first premise. The second, not quite. Your ability to choose God is first enabled by Gods choice of you.
