Atheism: Supressing ones knowledge of the truth of God to the point of no longer believing He exists. A strong delusion.

I am an atheist and I naturally don’t see it that way. How do we tell which of us is closer in our thinking to how things really are?
-
Ed, have you always been an unbeliever, or did something happen to come to that descion?
-
I grew up atheist, converted to Christianity in my late teens and then ‘deconverted’ in my late 30s. I had increasing doubts and in the end decided to confirm that my faith was true by looking carefully at the evidence and arguments. That process took many years and I ended up an atheist again.

I’ll be honest with you it’s way worse to be a Muslim or a Jew or a Hindu
-
My point is that we all think that how we see things is roughly correct. How do we find out which one of us is closer to the truth?
-
Jeff, what do you mean by faith?
-
“How do we know which is closer” is a matter of epistemology that in the end can offer no empirical answer. In the hard sciences thanks to quantum mechanics et al ..there can NEVER be any definitive anwers, just probabilities. This is why our Creator defined reality for us.
-
From a Descartes perspective…creation itself is a contruct of the Divine Mind…so by default in this context …reality is ultimately subjective that defies objectification. Again much like quantum physics.
-
Philip, are you advocating throwing in the towel, so to speak, and so not even trying to see which group/perspective is closer to the truth of the matter?
-
If you can’t explain how nothing creates everything, give up.

All I know is that even the demons tremble at His name. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

True ; but one based completely by choice.

An atheist is like someone who has left a room, locked the door, and threw away the key. After time passes, he assures himself that there never was such a room, door, and key.
