Reading scripture answers this question. The bigger question is do you believe there is something wrong with sex in marriage?

Well considering the fact that Jesus had a half brother, and considering the fact that Joseph married her, to believe that they didn’t get it on is plain old gullibility.

Absolutely not! The Bible is very specific that there was no sexual contact between Joseph and Mary, before she gave birth to Christ. After she had other children of which one was James.
Definitely was not a virgin after Christ’s birth. The Bible makes this very clear and any other teaching is 100 percent false! -

She was a Virgin until after she gave Birth to Christ. Afterwards, she gave birth to others, including James. She was married to Joseph and led a normal Life, as she should have.

No. The Bible doesn’t say that. In fact, Mary had other sons and daughters. The Bible does say that.

Scripture tells us plainly she was not a perpetual virgin. Look to the Word for answers. Matthew 1:25 “And knew her not TILL she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.”

Matthew 1:24-25
“24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25***But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son***. And he gave him the name Jesus. NIV
“but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.” NASB
The clear implication here is that Joseph did consummate the marriage after Jesus was born. Without consummation it would not have been a valid marriage. Some people object that you cannot infer that but that is the way language works. If I say to my boss I am not coming in to work until tomorrow he will be expecting me at work tomorrow. It certainly does not mean that I have quit my job and will never return.

Mary was a virgin when Jesus was born. Afterwards, she gave birth through Joseph to more children. That’s a Catholic belief that simply can’t be true.
Catholic doctrine claims she was born without original sin. She was chosen by God for the birth of Jesus. To say she was without original sin would make her more than human. It’s also claimed she is a sure path to a deeper relationship with God. The Bible is clear there is only one mediator between man and God, Jesus.

No. The Bible says so. James is referred as the brother of Lord Jesus, in His earthly life.

what benefit for the body of Christ exists in the life of Mary after Jesus is born? How would Mary remaining a virgin benefit anyone on this planet at anytime? where is the doctrine that can be gained from this? where is the teaching? where is the learning? where where is anything of benefit to any human being ever? ridiculous! it wasn’t taught at the time of Christ’s pre crucifixion life. it wasn’t taught in the first century. it is an idea that sprang up in the Roman Catholic heresy centuries later and that makes it new doctrine

Edit: I’m not sure why, but people seem to think I’m saying Joseph slept with Mary before Jesus was conceived. I would like to say now that this is not what I’m saying. I believe she was a virgin when Jesus was conceived, then she married Joseph, then Jesus was born, then they did what spouses do, ultimately leading to Jesus having siblings.
No. First, she married Joseph. It is entirely appropriate to engage in marital relations with one’s spouse, and Paul actually suggests it is wrong not to. “Do not deprive each other, but by mutual consent and for a time that you may dedicate yourselves to the Lord”.
Furthermore, Matthew tells us Joseph kept her a virgin UNTIL she gave birth to her firstborn (obviously Jesus). We even know this produced children, because Jesus had brothers and sisters, two of whom went on to write some of the New Testament.
The perpetual virginity of Mary is a sad doctrine, not because it’s wrong, but because it makes us discuss Mary’s sex life, which as far as I’m concerned is none of our business, rather than that which is lovely, true and of good report. Why should we discuss what is between Mary, Joseph and God, rather than the glory of the resurrection, which we should be preaching to the world?

When BIBLICAL scripture can be provided to prove she did remain a virgin, then you can say otherwise. My bible clearly states that she did not remain a virgin.

Joseph saw that Mary was pregnant and wanted to divorce her because of the disgrace. Angel told Joseph that Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit. Mary gave birth to Jesus who was conceived of the Holy Spirit. Joseph and Mary had four other children: Joseph (junior), James, Jude and Simon.
Mary is not a perpetual virgin as:
1) She had other children. These children were not conceived by the Holy Spirit as Jesus was. There was no other ‘IVF’ besides this at the time. So she had to be impregnated by sexual intercourse. Matthew 13:55 indicates they were biological children of specifically Mary and Joseph i.e. ‘the carpenter’s son’. It was not Mary and the Holy Spirit or Mary and some other person. It was Mary and Joseph.
If it was some other Mary and Joseph, then Joseph would not as Scripture states be a ‘righteous man’, he would be a hypocrite for wanting to divorce Mary because of what he initially thought to be her unrighteousness. Elsewhere in Scripture, people identified his brothers and their mother Mary together.
2) Joseph conceived the children. Otherwise he would have divorced her. But four times he didn’t because he knew it was his. He knew that Jesus was not his (thinking it was through adultery) and thats why he wanted to divorce her. Even if he accidentally impregnanted Mary then in both cases, she cannot be a virgin. But he knew four times it was his, it was deliberate procreation by natural means. Therefore he is the father and was responsible for impregnating Mary.
3) If the other children were born of the Holy Spirit as Jesus and therefore keeping Mary a virgin, then that would make them divine, but they weren’t. They were conceived of the perishable seed of man and all died.
4) And Mary remain a virgin after giving birth to Jesus? The hymen to indicate virginity would not remain intact. So she is not a virgin.Matthew 1:25 says he did not knew [or have sex with/marital relationships] her until after Jesus was born. The word knew cannot be translated in any other context. It cannot be translated literally as knowing someone for first time because they already knew in that sense each other. So Mary is not a virgin.
It doesn’t make sense to be married to someone so they remain a virgin all their life. It only makes sense to be a virgin to save oneself for someone, which Mary did to Joseph.

if you beleive she remained a virgin, you simply don’t believe the bible. You can’t dodge the greek, Jesus had brothers and sisters. They were not cousins, there was another word for that.

NO! Her virginity was pertinent only to the Birth of Yeshua! Other than that, she was a normal human (albeit a very special one), and gave birth to Yeshua’s half brothers and sisters after His miraculous birth. No, Jesus had brothers and sisters and was referred to as one of Joseph’s sons. Mary was married to Joseph and had more children after she birthed Jesus.

Bible clearly states that Mary is not Holy for not having sex and that Jesus was the 1st of her children. Catholicism teaches Mary was Holy so she couldn’t have sex. Based on pagan practices of woman parts being only thing that defines a woman in Catholicism. Catholics gonna freak and scream “hater”. But history bears out the truth of my statement.

Those that attempt to disprove her perpetual virginity refer to Matthew 1:25, to say that Mary remained a Virgin only “until She brought forth Her first-born son, Jesus” (Matt. 1:25).
But the word “until” does not signify that Mary remained a virgin only until a certain time. (Remember, the Bible was not originally written in English).
The word “until” and words similar to it signify eternity.For example, when it says: “For He must reign, until He hath put all enemies under His feet?” (I Cor. 15:25). Is the Lord then to reign only for the time until His enemies shall be under His feet?
Following this logic, we would have to assume that after the end of the age, Christ will no longer be with us. But we know this is not true… The Lord will triumph!

No because Jospeh had other kids with Mary, and the Bible says he did not know Mary “until” she gave birth to Jesus. This strongly implies he knew her afterwards. The only reason she is viewed as a perpetual virgin is the Roman Catholic church hundreds of years after she and the early church passed away developed extra-biblical doctrines. The only way you can read her perpetual virginity into the text is if you come to it with some prior assumptions.
