Is that what you signed up for?

“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” __Albert Einstein

Sometimes it’s good to take inventory of your life.

A question I like to ask is, “Is this what I signed up for?”

Think about the married couple that is struggling. They have big fancy lifestyle with big fancy bills to pay and the stress and pressure of maintaining that lifestyle is draining the joy right out of their marriage.

What happened?

Somewhere along the way they forgot what they signed up for and made their marriage about something else.

Here’s a personal example…

I’ll never forget the thrill of pulling up to my first church. I was so excited…my own church to pastor!

But little by little I started comparing my church with my friend’s church or the happening church across town and without noticing it discontent begin to creep in and my joy at the privilege of pastoring those dear people began to evaporate.

What happened?

I forgot what I signed up for.

It’s amazing how quickly we can lose our way. We add a little something here and a little something there. We inch our expectations higher, we grow our wish list, we add one more thing we need in order to be happy, and soon we are miles away from the simple life that we once so enjoyed.

What happened?

We got our eyes off what we signed up for.

The ONE THING for today: The moment it takes more you should be alert to the fact that you may be getting away from what you signed up for.

Keep it simple!
