Temptation Is when something is coming from your inside like desiring something or someone, trials come from the outside in your direction…
That’s what I believe is the biggest difference. Shurely someone else knows better the difference and might help you also distinguish the two
I would say a trail could come in form of a temptation but sometimes it may just be a hardship or test which helps build character.
Have you been tested?
If not, you will soon know that trails come from not passing the test of being TEMPTED by the one who stated it all.
The difference between testing of faith and temptation. Main aspect we can differentiate between faith and temptation is their origin and its purpose.
TRIALS
Testing of faith is any circumstance that gives you the opportunity to do the will of God (Ex. God commanded them not to eat the fruit in the middle of the garden. Gen 2:17).
Testing of faith gives us the opportunity to exercise our God given free will to choose to listen and obey God.
Thus it brings out the fruit of the Spirit in you.
TESTING OF FAITH COMES FROM GOD
Psalm 66:10-12
For You have tried us, O God; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid an oppressive burden upon our loins. You made men ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water, Yet You brought us out into a place of abundance.
PURPOSE OF TESTING
James 1:2-4
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
TEMPTATION
Temptation on the other hand is any circumstance that entices you to go against the will of God or and disobey God. It becomes sin when you give in to it
TEMPTATION DOES NOT COME FROM GOD
Jas 1:13-15 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; (14) but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
PURPOSE OF TEMPTATION
(15) Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
God tested Abraham’s faith – Gen 22:1 Sometime later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.
Therefore we must change our attitude towards trials:
Expect
1 Peter 4:12 Not be surprised!
John 16:33 In this life you will have many troubles.
Expect trials and ask God’s grace that we may overcome.
Prepare
Our response to trials depends how prepared we are!
You can prepare by meditating God’s word, training your mind and your heart to trust God’s word.
Rejoice –James 1:2
Pray – James 5:13
TRIALS
James 1:2-4
so that you may be perfect and complete
TEMPTATION
Jas 1:13-15
when it is full-grown Gives birth to death
Difference between Trials and Temptation: God is the teacher who gives you the exam (trials), while the devil is your classmate who is showing you his answers (temptation).
I’d read up on James for a more clear picture of this. Trials is like a test. Cause and effect. If, then. Temptation as per James is when we are drawn away by our lusts or desires to persue sin. God does NOT tempt.
