To: All Ministers/Laity

In anticipation of the 79th International General Assembly on July 8-12, 2024, this notification serves to communicate the process for the submission of items for consideration and possible placement on the International General Council Agenda.

Potential agenda items are to be sent to the International Executive Council in order to be considered for the International General Council Agenda. The International Executive Council is charged by the Bylaws of the Church of God with the responsibility of setting the agenda for the International General Council.

The notifications below are made in light of the requirements of the Bylaws of the Church of God as well as the International General Assembly Minutes:

Deadline Submission of agenda items relating to the Bylaws of the Church of God needs to be sent to the International Executive Council by January 3, 2024. This will allow the International Executive Council time to consider these items by its January 2024 meeting. There is a 90-day notification deadline to the International General Council required by the Bylaws of the Church of God concerning amendment of the Bylaws (2022 International General Assembly Minutes, pp. 64-65).

Deadline Submission of regular potential agenda items for the International General Council needs to be sent to the International Executive Council by March 1, 2024. This will allow the International Executive Council time to consider these items by its April 2024 meeting. There is a 30-day notification deadline to the International General Council required by the Bylaws of the Church of God concerning regular International General Council items (2022 International General Assembly Minutes, pp. 67).

Deadline Submission of agenda items regarding doctrine as prescribed by the Declaration of Faith are to be submitted in writing to the International Executive Council 12 months prior to the meeting of the International General Council (2022 International General Assembly Minutes, pp. 69-70). The deadline for submission of these items for the 2026 International General Assembly is April 3, 2025.

Some last minute thoughts and ideas<!–

IT’S ALMOST TIME TO GO!!

SOME LAST-MINUTE THINGS TO TAKE CARE OF:

1. If you are going to use texts and calls on your cell phone, be sure to contact your provider to ensure that you have an international plan. (Otherwise, you could end up paying hundreds of dollars.) If you do not have an international plan, you can make voice calls and texts using “What’s App” to communicate with your family. You can also use Wi-Fi at the hotel.

2. Contact your credit card company and ask if they charge international conversion fees. (Some do and some don’t. You’d be surprised!)

3. Make sure you have an international outlet converter(Here is the one we bought LINK ON AMAZON) You’ll need two. One for bathroom electronics (hair dryer, flat iron, shaver, etc) and one for your laptop, phone, watch, AirPods, etc… I also suggest you pack a long extension cord.

4. PRE-TRAVEL SHUTTLE AND HOTEL: Dr. Fred contacted you a few weeks ago about the shuttle from Chattanooga to Nashville. There are 14 of us taking the shuttle on SUNDAY at 3pm from Groome’s Shuttle in Chattanooga to the Nashville Airport Fairfield Inn where we will spend the night before catching the flight Monday morning. We will also be taking the shuttle from Atlanta to Chattanooga the night we return from our trip.  If you missed this information and want to join, please contact us immediately.  The cost for the shuttle is $135 per person or $270 per couple.  I have reserved SIX rooms at the Fairfield. The cost is $135 per room. Sometimes the hotel charges extra fees and I never know what the taxes will be so if it’s more or less I will let you know. The rooms I have reserved are for 1-Garmon, 2-Forbis, 3-Sterbens, 4-McIntyre, 5-Hunt, and 6-Harrison.  If you need a room, please return email or text me (Shirley) at 423-716-3650. ASAP.  Those we have listed for the 3pm shuttle are 2-Garmon, 2-McIntyre, 1-Hunt, 2-Sterbens, 2-Thompson, 2-Hensley, 1-Harrison, and 2-Hobbs are on the 5pm shuttle.

5. WEATHER AND CLOTHES: The weather in Athens is quite similar to Cleveland, TN. It’s going to be (most likely) 70ish in the day and 50s at night. Remember that it will be windy on the cruise. I suggest layers because you don’t know how each day will be. I highly suggest a wind/rain jacket. Also, pack super comfortable shoes for lots of walking. You may want a hat or small umbrella to block the sun. If you wear prescription glasses or bring sunglasses, a cord or some way of securing them might help you to not lose them.

If you take lots of photos with your phone, you might want to get this phone strap so you don’t have to keep it in your pocket, hand, or purse, and make sure you don’t misplace it or lose it. Also, adding a contact number to your screen saver is a good way for someone to contact you if your phone is found.

6. Remember, you can only check one large piece of luggage (no more than 50 pounds). And also bring a carry-on backpack for the flights. In the backpack (and never in your checked luggage) Put your MEDICINES, MONEY, LICENSE, PASSPORT, CREDIT CARDS, charging cords, eyeglasses, eye mask or ear plugs if you need them. Also snacks and something to pass the time, etc. A carry-on that you can prop your feet on helps to relax the lower back. And a neck pillow and lightweight blanket or a long sweater might be useful if the plane is too cold.

7. Our last ZOOM meeting is Tuesday, October 15th, at 7pm. Fred will send out the link that day to remind you.

REMEMBER THAT THE TIME CHANGES SUNDAY BEFORE OUR TRIP, FALL BACK.  AND ALSO REMEMBER THAT NASHVILLE IS ON CENTRAL TIME. (ONE HOUR BACK)

Please send your payment for the shuttle and hotel.
