What is a Christian expected to do when they have a desire to live a life they know God would say no to? What if they’ve prayed for change, but God didn’t take that desire away?

Anyone is a philosophy major here? I’m battling with some questions regarding christianity in the post modern era especially when it comes to interpretation of meanings and would like to seek some guidance. I would appreciate it greatly if someone is able to lend a helping hand. ?
