Missionaries in Greece Baptize Muslim Refugees

A man on a deserted beach, hiding in the dark from those who would harm him, praying with his mentors, and accepting the love of Christ into his heart. Whispering a prayer as he holds his nose submerging himself under the water. Then raising, now washed clean, out of the water as a baptized Christian.

A few weeks ago, a Church of God World Missions associate missionary, Jamison Creel, had the opportunity to baptize a Muslim refugee in Greece. Creel and the other missionaries working in Greece assist refugees from surrounding countries to obtain a structure in Greece and share the word of God. While they had many baptisms before Creel joined the team, Creel worked tirelessly to bring everyone to the faith and performed his first baptism a few weeks ago. The Muslim refugee spent time speaking with the missionaries about his journey to Christ and the significance of the sacrament of baptism.

“He [God] ‘from one man has created all the days of the Earth, and He determined there are times in the boundaries of where they live’ (Acts 17:26 NIV). I have read that scripture dozens of times before, but it never jumped off the page at me. I just thought that’s what’s happening in Syria, Afghanistan. It’s always where God is changing the boundaries of where these people live. This guy on the beach was the embodiment of all that,” said Creel.

After Creel and his associates concluded that he was genuine in his desire to be baptized and spend his life in servitude to the Lord, they took him to a deserted beach to conduct the baptism. During this time, they had to be careful to keep those who would harm Christians from finding their location. They did not want anyone disrupting this sacred act.
