Remember the thief on the cross
Does repentance need to be tested in order to be saved? What of the thief in the cross? Romans 10:9 kinda sums it up.
Repentance is changing ones mind form rejecting Christ to trusting Him. So yes.
Yes, because salvation is of the Lord
What about the thief on the cross?
What happened to that murderer on the cross? Did he have time for his repentance to be tested ?
Yes. The thief on the cross is the perfect example. He believed that Jesus was God and Jesus said to him, “truly I say to you, today you shall be with me in paradise.” I think people overcomplicate salvation if I’m honest. God doesn’t need time. If you have a repentant heart, confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord, you’re saved. The Gospel is simple.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Eph 2. 8-9
Interesting question.. That’s why I’ve been meaning to study purgatory from a Protestant theologian’s perspctive. Dr. Jerry Walls is a non catholic who argues for purgatory..
I believe so. Jesus talked to the thief next to him on a cross about being with Him in paradise. Right before the theif died.
Yes a theif nailed to a cross next to Jesus when He was crucified said “Lord remember me when you come into your Kingdom” Jesus replied “Today you will be with me in Paradise” I believe with all my heart the Lord is saying to the world it’s never to late for Salvation while you live. Even on your death bed
Did the criminal on cross have time to be tested ???
Answer your own question
Thief on the cross.
The man on the cross by Jesus was told he would be in paradise because he confessed that day. So I would say yes
Ask the man that was hung on the right of Yeshua when you get to Paradise
Where in Scripture is there a testing of repentance?
Absolutely God judges the heart not how many trials you have been put through
Yes, look at the theif who was crucified with Jesus and besides cannot God show mercy to whoever he wants?
God knows the heart. If in those few short moments one truly repents of the heart, they are saved. God is the judge of that.
Yh..the thief at the cross attests to that
He saved the thief on the cross.
Only God can read hearts, so who else is going to do the testing?
Salvation is usually a process.
Instantaneous process, you can be born again the moment you physically die. I would guess that it is rare as the heart seems to grow harder but who really knows?
please refer to the story of the two thieves on the Clavary with Christ Jesus in the last moment…
How many times in the Gospels is it mentioned that Christ knew what was in their heats?
He will know the truth of our hearts …. no need to worry
Thief on the cross??? Today you will be with me in paradise?? Seems clear to me x
If they are truly repentant within their heart, I believe so. Think about the thief on the cross.
If his heart is right, you bet, and only God knows our heart.
Thief on the cross
Thief on cross.
No repetance….no salvation
Our salvation is dependent on Jesus, not our ability to repent.
The need for a test, would invalidate God’s all knowing nature. So there is no need for time or a test.
Tested by Who? Jesus the Word discerns the thoughts and intents of the heart ( whether a man believes or not) there is no test required.. where as in the Book of James it is suggested that works must be evident to establish faith is real.. but it is only a witness (man to man) for to God there is no need for earthly proof of faith.. For He knows the heart..
The thief did
Just want to thank everyone who reponded to this question.
The thief on the cross.
The fact from scriptures is that when Jesus was alive, on the earth, He was given the authority to forgive sins as recorded in Mark 2:9-10. When Jesus forgave the thief, was Jesus alive? Uhhh, yes! Upon His death a new covenant was ushered in as discussed by the writer of Hebrews in chapter 9. Today, in our time, we are all under a different covenant with different terms and those terms are laid out in the new testament writing. The gospel accounts, are they new covenant or old covenant time?
Old covenant!!
Remember the Thief said “ Remember me”
Yes, if they are truly repentant and believe in the Gospel. God knows the heart. He saved the thief on the cross.
The thief on the cross fits into this category I believe.
When the thief on the cross asked Jesus to remember him when he came into his kingdom, Jesus told him that he would be with Him in paradise that day. Answers the question for me.
The thief on the cross did
Only God knows the contents of a person’s heart. If they are truly sincere, He will know it and let them in… If not… He won’t.
Saved by grace through faith, not of works
Well, what would you say about the thief on the cross who was being crucified the same time as Jesus Christ? There was no time to test the genuineness of his faith and repentance. Jesus said, “Today you will be with me in paradise.”
Yes, it is an issue of the heart that only God knows, but you are right in that repentance is absolutely necessary.
You don’t have to be a thief on a cross.Just Believe!
He will
We can’t do anything to earn salvation but just believe.
