Why are some people against Easter Egg Hunts and saying the name Easter? I feel like it is insignificant. We have Thursday (Thors Day) and other days that aren’t necessary Christian. Easter Egg hunts are just good fun in my humble opinion. What are your thoughts?

Because its intertwining paganism with Christianity. Ishtar was the goddess of fertility. That’s where the name Easter comes from and the Easter eggs and all that crap.

But then again a lot of traditions Christians have comes from pagans. Take Christmas for instance.

The word EASTER has a dark history. Hunting eggs is fun…but place Scripture inside of them…and have the child read them or you read it to them..explaining something revalent to The Resurrection.

My main objection is that it shifts the focus
off the cross and onto a fun gimme gimme holiday. Also I don’t like the idea of calling this holy day by the name of the goddess of fertility. -
The benefits for the events are more important. Some do not celebrate Christmas but some use it to share Christ and many people got saved!
So it depends on what we will do! -
If it’s suppose to be a day to honor Jesus, why would we as believers want to intertwine a pagan narrative and idol into the day, taking away from Jesus

I’m going to be snarky and say it’s because all those type of Christians live in fear and judgement. They have their religious briefs in a wad, so to speak.
They have the same thought process as the Pharisees who were so focused on the outward appearance instead of the heart.

Weak in faith mostly.
They are superstitious “step on a crack, break my God’s back” weak in faith.
Do not cause them to stumble if this is what they believe. If it is true to them, it is true to their faith.Many many many many things we do as western culture, that has become tradition has some pagan attributes to them.
Things we do in Western culture that has no pagan ties to them may also have pagan ties in eastern cultures as well.Simply put.
If you paint eggs in celebration of spring time festivities, it is not pagan. If you color eggs in honor of pagan deities, then it is pagan.Just like if you put on Nike sports gear because it’s available, you like them etc it’s not paganism.
If you wear Nike to honor the pagab Nike God of victory then it’s pagan. -
I agree with Tim L….it is paganism. We have a choice with participating in Easter egg hunt, whereas we do not a choice on the names of the days of the week

Eggs and bunnies are both fertility symbols used in the worship of the pagan goddess Ishtar. God is obviously opposed to this.

We are talking about coloring eggs, giggling about bunnies and little yellow chicks, and having some fun with our kids. Nothing is being sacrificed, no pagan gods are being worshipped. History is history, let it stay there. What is in your heart when you do these things is all that matters. Sometimes I wonder why Christians, who should be the most insanely joyful people on the planet, turn out to be so stodgy and joyless, seeing demons and paganism in everything. Do you worship Jesus, then worship Him with your kids while you marvel at the perfection of eggs and the wonderful colors of the universe! We should stop allowing fear to rob us of the bright and beautiful joy that is available to us.

I dont believe we have to join in pagan customs to have fun … There are many things I found fun as an adult … And in the worlds eyes harmless fun … Let Gods word be the final authority on all matters .. Not peoples oppinions

So many things happen each and every day in different places you cannot assume that because on Thursday in India someone worshiped a goat now I can’t pray on Thursday coz Al be praying to a goat. What am doing had nothing to do with what happened somewhere else. Suppose you tell me your father is your heroe and then I tell you as for me Jesus is my heroe and then you come up with all definitions of the origin of the word heroe where the name came from what happened etc that doesn’t concern me at all. I even don’t care. Easter we Christian’s remember the death of Christ period what others did on the same day is not our concern

It’s a reason to get people together that otherwise might not hear the gospel. People get caught up on tradition right along with the Pharisees and end up weak, fearful, useless Christians because of stuff like this

Because they don’t know the Bible. It is clearly up to us to choose if we want to have some special days or not. We do everything for the Glory of God. If you want Christmas do it for the Glory of God. If you don’t want to have Christmas or Easter it’s your choice, do some other things for the Glory of God.

It is true that in some ancient cultures there were spring rituals that honored other gods. obviously, those rituals are forbidden to us.
When Christians celebrate EASTER they are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the single most important event in the history of the world.
Eggs and bunnies maybe have been appropriated as symbols of ‘fertility’ by this ancient cult, but that is not what they ARE. The fact that some pagan called them that, does not make it so. What they ARE, and always have been, are magnificent and beautiful parts of God’s creation.
It is just a valid to say that Christians have ‘redeemed’ the egg and the bunny from the idolatrous meaning given to them by evil people and restored them to their rightful place as symbols of new life and hope in God’s Kingdom.
The cross was a symbol of the most gruesome and torturous death to the peoples of Jesus’ time. Now it is the symbol of our redemption from death and the grave, Christ’s Victory!!
If you participate in these cultural festivities because you are remembering and celebrating the Resurrection of our LORD, then there is nothing idolatrous in them. We are each free to follow the Lord’s leading in our hearts regarding this. <3

If this is the dust up caused over Easter, I am looking forward to the dialogue when Christmas arrives. The Bible says that we should do everything in spirit and in truth. Easter comes from the Greek goddess of the spring Eostera. It was believed that she healed an bird or eagle that was dying by turning it into a bunny …hence where we get the idea that bunnies lay eggs from. But as we all know bunnies r mammals and don’t lay eggs.
I know some people don’t wanna hear this but Easter is a pagan holiday that is surrounded by false doctrine. And like I said God wants us to do everything in spirit and in truth.

Christ said in you are not with me you are against me that is pretty black and white. Either something is of Christ or it is not there is no middle ground. We are called to be Holy, separate from the world and the culture. Jesus hates the Nicolaitans because they preach inclusiveness basically you can be of the world and yet profess Christ. I think that worrying about the word Easter is insignificant compared to the true meaning of what the holiday is about. We need to remember that it’s not just about the word EASTER, but it’s about what Jesus did on that cross! I will still have an easter egg hunt with my kids because it’s not about that, it’s about Jesus and as long as we have that in our hearts and minds, and that we are worshipping him only, that’s all that should matter. Let’s not quarrel on such insignificant words.

Question: heart issue or pagan issue? Where do we draw the line between intention and if something is spiritually profane and should not be done regardless of heart behind it? Also, may be a separate issue, but would the scriptural ideas of halachic(first Christian moral feelings) moral conscientiousness for another’s deep seated feelings toward righteousness be appropriate in this situation?
