1 Peter 3:
**21 **The like figure where unto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
The people Peter was writing to had a good conscience going into this baptism. Their good conscience was answering God.
When I trusted Christ, I didn’t have a good conscience. Therefore, I could not give an answer to God from a good conscience.
I had plenty of sins prior to trusting Christ that I knew were against God when I committed those sins. I couldn’t have a good conscience.
Paul for example, had a clear conscience. What did he say?
1 Timothy 1:
**13 **Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
Paul obtained mercy because his sins were done in ignorance.
What about you? Were your sins done in ignorance? Or did you know they were wrong?
