The Coast Guard suspends its search for the crew of a capsized fishing boat in the Gulf of Alaska
The Coast Guard began the search after Wind Walker’s crew sent a Mayday call at 12:10 am Sunday, Dec 1st that the 50-foot (15-meter) boat was overturning off Point Couverden. The Coast Guard tried to get more information as it mobilized a response, but the crew didn’t answer. The state ferry Hubbard reached the scene, followed by a Coast Guard helicopter and response boat. A winter storm warning was in effect as responders faced heavy snow, winds up to 60 mph (96 kph) & 6-foot (1.8-meter) seas.

Newly discovered Asteroid flew past Earth at closest flyby of the year and second closest on record
Asteroid 2024 XA was first observed at Catalina Sky Survey, Arizona, only 5 hours before the flyby. This is the 123rd known asteroid to fly past Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the closest of the year. This is also the second closest asteroid flyby on record (since 1900).
