Lee University Missions Week Recap

Lee University recently wrapped up Dee Lavender Missions Week, held this year on October 1-5.

Each year, Lee partners with Church of God World Missions in raising money and awareness for a specific missions project. This year’s theme, in honor of the university’s centennial year, was Going Home. Funds were raised for the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home in Sevierville, Tennessee.

Chapel services on Tuesday and Thursday were themed toward the project. On Tuesday, students heard from popular faculty member Dr. Brad Moffit. Moffit spoke from a particularly personal place, as his father was at one time the director of the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home. Thursday, the current director of SMCH, Dr. Walt Mauldin, shared with students the mission and vision of the home.

In addition to the emphasis on SMCH, students experienced a wide variety of missions-themed events on campus. The Paul Conn Student Union was filled with informational booths about missions projects across the world. Many classes also featured a special lecture from a missionary, giving students the opportunity to interact and learn in a more intimate setting.

Lee University has hosted Dee Lavender Missions Week since 1991. Since that time, donations have surpassed $450,000, and countless students have heard and accepted the call to be involved in a life of missions.
