Matthew 3:1-8( NKJV)

“In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’ ” And John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,”

We see repentance as just simply saying sorry to God, but it’s more than that. It starts from knowing how holy and rightous God is, how He is always separates from sin and He hates it. Then it is followed by checking ourselves by the standard of God, then we will realize how we are against God and how we love sin which is the enemy of God. After that comes regret, we remorse what we have done and become. Then we confess our sins to God Who is able to clean us by His own blood.

Then we make decisions to take action and always we must know that we are weak, but God is strong so we have to ask His Grace to act as our decision. Finally we change direction of our old life. That is what we call repentance. May God help us to repent in the right way and to change our direction to Him.
