What do you think Jesus preached to the spirits in…

What do you think Jesus preached to the spirits in bondage when he left his body and went to a realm of spirit?

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.”. (1 Pet. 3:18–20)

Great question, I’m afraid I don’t know the answer haha

How about maybe the gospel. Who knows

We don’t talk about it much do we? I think we should try a little better to understand it.

I’ve done a little research and I have some ideas.

I think he’s saying that Jesus’s spirit (His pre-incarnate state) was present with Noah as part of the prophetic witness of Noah to the unbelievers while the ark was being built. Just an idea and I’m not sure about it.

One interpretation is that it refers to the spirit of those who have died, and Christ, after His resurrection, preached the Good news to the spirits, however the idea that people might hear the Good news and respond after death is contrary to what the rest of the scripture says, and the meaning of the spirit is not most likely.

Another interpretation is; the spirits in prison are evil spiritual beings. Jewish traditions based on Gen. 6:1-3 held that many angels fell in the time of Noah( Jude1:6). Peter’s point would be that Christ proclaimed his victory over the evil spiritual powers after His resurrection as in verse 22.

There are certainly some mysteries in the NT and OT. ‘And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend….And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. ……. And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen. 33:11,17,18,19,20,22,23. KJV. Adam and Eve met Jehovah after they sinned, Job met Jehovah, so did Abraham, Melchizedek….Presumably not in Jehovah’s (Jesus) Glorified Body which we will only see after death.
God exists in All the Realms of existence both past and present as He wills in a body that has form. See Revelation 1:12-17.

Ever wonder how people who didn’t get a chance to hear the Gospel in their life, got a chance? Well this would be your answer: the Gospel
    (1st Peter 4:6)

  8. Madison Willoughby says:

The original Greek says He ‘heralded the gospel message.”
