It seems we have some mods in here that side with the known trolls. While it is true the trolls cause us to research more (for some reason they can’t do it) & they also have no intentions to learn or change their viewpoint, & I don’t like it one bit.
So here’s a challenge to you admins. Post a question everyday about an apologetic issue. If each of you do this we all will learn in a safer context than being mocked by some troll. I have one to start, I saw earlier in here.
Since the Bible considers a bat a bird, this makes the Bible wrong. Right or wrong. How can you defend this thru science (man knowledge) &/ or by scripture (Gods knowledge). Thank you
The original Hebrew word means, “owner of wing,” or “flying creature,” but not “bird.” It also covers insects that fly.
There was no animal classification back then like we have today, i.e., birds, mammals, etc. So no, the Bible does not claim that a bat is a bird as different than a mammal.
I believe it differentiates in the books if the Laws
I thought there would be more takers on the bat question. This should be a page of defending our faith in a safe environment & not sharpen each other only to find out these mods are siding with the trolls.
You are attempting to combine modern English with ancient Hebrew. The fact that modern English separates animals based on if they are born or hatched and ancient Hebrew separates them based on if they fly or not really doesn’t disprove the Bible. The same argument is made about Jonah. What kind of fish was it? Was it a whale? We really don’t know. But ancient Hebrew knew it was a creature that lived in the water.
May I ask why this matters

The original question is one that belongs to trolls. It unfairly assumes that original authors had the knowledge of scientists, of even 300 years ago.

We must be aware that it is modern science that has a different classification system than ancient times. To the ancients, creatures such as a bat were considered birds since they categorized all flying animals as birds. If that is the category that they used, then they were correct. It is not an error. It is a difference of categorization procedures. The critic has imposed upon the ancient text a modern system of categorization and then said that the Bible is wrong. This is a big error in thinking.
That the Hebrew word “oph” is used to refer to bats indicates that bats and what we know as birds today were put under the same classification.
Furthermore that early translations of the Bible used the English word “foul” to refer to bats before the creation of “authoritative” dictionaries indicates that the English word itself allowed for bats, as a flying animal, to be included in this classification.
There are no specific classification in the bible.
