Biblically how can we explain love to a non believer
Biblically how can we explain love to a non believer
John 3:16
Yes I know the different scriptures , however just as Paul used and unknown idol to preach on mars hill, surely we have more at our disposal.
with truth and love Ephesians 4:15
Wow,
Excellent question
I say that we most certainly touch on the forgiveness aspects as well
Eph. 4:32 in conjunction with John 3:16
Wow a lot to take in. Is this the direction in talking to a world that believes love is agreement with everyone and absolute tolerance
The cross
The Gospel
Life does explain quite a bit!
Love is an action not just a feeling. Romans 5:8 says God demonstrated his LOVE for us in that while we were sinners he sent Christ to die for us.
Verbally, the Gospel. Physically, kindness, gentleness, humility, respect, compassion, empathy, a servant heart, mercy, forgiveness.
I think talking to an average mother about what happened to her heart when she had a baby is a good place to start – parents who know they would die for their children know something about love
To me, the biggest act of love in all human history starts and stops at the cross. The resurrection confirms that LOVE POURS OUT even 2000 years later.
What about the four aspects of love?
Agape
Astorge
Fileo
Eros
What kind of love are talking about?
Greet, offer coffee, invite, bear their insult, etc.
.
Don’t lie to another.
Don’t steal from another.
Don’t defraud or deceive another.
Don’t harm another.
Don’t slander another.
Correct another’s behavior.
Love another as you love yourself. (Quoted by the Lord in Matthew 22)
Leviticus 19:11-18
This should cover about 85% of the explanation.
Biblically, to love another means having another’s best interest in mind.
Most people can understand it this way.
Treat others the way you want them to treat you.
Love (charity) is manifest in our acts, works, and deeds!
Because we are saved by love, John 3:16, we love God. He love us all, so for His sake in that He did that, we must love on another, not thinking we are better than them, Phillipians 2:3.
Explain through deeds of love. Profession of love without action will only seem hypocritical to non-believers.
Paull defines loves actions in 1 Corinthians 13
The cross of Christ
John 3:16
Which one? The Greeks had four words. Yet if you wanted to speak of the love of God it is Romans 5:8.
The innocent dying for the guilty is a message that a non believer understands. Example, (and this falls short still) a firefighter rescuing somebody out of a building on fire and ends up dying as a result.
A king giving his life for the common man. These are the Gospel but don’t require a church background to grasp.
John 15:13
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
1 John 3:16
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
Preach the gospel. Period.
“The Sermon on the Mount is nothing but a great and Grand and perfect elaboration of what time ur Lord called His ‘new commandment’…that we love one another even as He loved us. If we are Christ’s, and our Lord has meant that word for us, that we should love one another as He loved us, here we are shown how to do it.” — Martin Lloyd-Jones
Tell them the Truth…God is Love,God is Justice, God is Truth. God cannot tolerate sin which would separate every person from Him for ever…”except”…that He made the way through Christ so that He can reconcile, purchase and pardon us… Nothing we can or could do to deserve His mercy. It’s all a gift from Him. He sets us free so that we can be free from the bondage of sin and death.
That is the unimaginable Love that only God has or can show.
explain the pain that jesus endured…..this alone should be enough to prove that the Lord cares for our souls
What IS love?
Baby don’t hurt me. Baby don’t hurt me no more.
While we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
He gave His life and I didn’t know Him.
“If you never know Truth, then you never know love” – Black Eyed Peas
The 4 kinds of love, ending with agape.
Matt. 5:38-48
This way, before spouting theology or even Scripture, you hit them in the gut (in the heart) with it. You make it real first, then back it up with your experince experience of salvation, using Scripture. But you cant can’t un-hit them in the gut. That visceral respnse response in them will hold their attention.
By our action, faith is a action word.
You can’t..
True love is given freely from the heart, without expectations. True love, and true compassion do not judge, blame or shame.
If Love is universal, no one can be left out..?️?❤
I understand that in a world of fallible human beings holding to a tradition that we hold dear can be a comfort like a warm blanket, so when confronted with a different tradition or worldview it can be met with resistance or even hostility, Jesus loved and accepted his disciples but also challenged their actions, a counter believe/tradition shouldn’t denote a lack of love for that person, this is something I feel we have to promote.
Caring in action
Tell them the gospel of Jesus Christ and How to get save from hell.
Tell your personal testimony , how God save you.
Think you can describe love but unconditional and sacrafical love not so much.
Using 1 Cor. 13, demonstrate what love truly is.
Remember the Bible does not say that God has great love. It says that God IS love. We do not define God by love, we define love by God.
Show them love
They are happening all the time every day! Ask the people who are experiencing them
I asked Jesus, how much do you love me? This much he replied, then stretched out his arms and died.
You can’t you must experience love
They already have a concept of love. They just don’t have a source from where that love comes. With out a source for their love they have no foundation to explain why they feel love towards someone. God would explain it and be the perfect example but they don’t want to believe in God.
One can not just explain Love, that should be extended through action…”let love be without dissimulation” Paul said in his letter to the Romans…when he reprimanded the Corinthians for being uncaring about the orphans & widows he expounded to them the most beautiful & subliminal exposition on Love in 1Cor.13. Christ succinctly stated it that when one loves GOD with all his/her heart, soul & strength and when the same loves his/her neighbor as him/herself, he/she fully satisfied the Laws & the Prophets.
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” John 15:13
