I believe he will be one of those 2 end time prophets that witness, are murdeted & are resurrected & taken up to heaven with everyone watching.

Both Moses and Elijah appeared at the transfiguration and they are the same two witnesses who will witness to the Jews in the end because they witnessed Christ.

John the Baptist as Elijah, The arrival of John’s messenger gave Jesus the opportunity to raise John’s identity. John preached and baptized. Jesus identified John as a prophet, but then preached it as fulfillment from Malachi 3: 1 (see Exodus 23:20). John is the prophet who preceded the coming of the kingdom of God. Such identification is further confirmed in verse 14, when John is referred to as Elijah. According to Malachi 4: 5, God sent the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of God’s arrival. however, all of John’s greatness is revealed, it is not yet possible for him to begin a decisive new age to realize the coming of God’s kingdom (Matt 11 verse 11).
After all, John’s teaching caused a direct attack on the kingdom to come (Matt 11 verse 12), an attack that would be repeated in the event of Jesus. Those who oppose the proclamation of John and Jesus concerning the Kingdom of God are against God himself. John and Jesus were rejected (verses 16-19), compare Luke 7: 31-35. Simple and ascetic, John was cast out as a demon possessed (verse 18). Likewise Jesus also experienced the same rejection (verse 19)
