45 Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Matthew 27:45-46

It’s interesting that when Jesus was born a bright light shone at midnight announcing salvation to the world.

But as Jesus hung on the Cross great darkness fell at noon.

It’s obvious that something dreadful is going on here. We will review what bible scholars call Jesus’s cry of dereliction (“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”) over the next few meditations. But for today let it be enough to know that Jesus knows what it is like to be in a dark place, even at noon.

The ONE THING for today: Not a one of us is exempt for going through dark seasons of the soul. Let it be a comfort to you that on the darkest day of all eternity Jesus was there. And that means He is willing to be with you on your darkest days. Do not be afraid to call on Him.
