Many Church of God pastors hold to the preservation of the saints by the work of God. They then turn around and say the saints must persevere in order to be saved. Thus they create a great conflict for their parishioners. How can the two beliefs be mingled? Like their reformed brethren they claim that a great mystery explains the conflict and that we must wait till we get to heaven and have an explanation from the Master.
The fault of this view lies with Donald Bowdle who taught this faulty view amalgamated with reformed theology. It was a faulty view espoused by “Redemption Accomplished and Applied” He called it Kewsick Reformed theology. It is more Assembly of God faith than a Church of God distinctive. His footnotes all point toward Reformed theologians.
He looked down on Wesleyan Theology.
