A Recipe for a Healthy Life

8 It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones.

_Proverbs 3:8

As the Creator, God sets limits. There’s no doubt about it. Don’t believe me? Try jumping off a tall building.

But…

As Creator, God gave us a lot of freedom. Our actions matter.

Take for example our lifespan. There is a limit to how long we can live, but our choices impact how close we get to that limit.

The days of our lives are seventy years;
And if by reason of strength they are eighty years…

Psalm 90:10

So let me give you a three choices, that combined, make a great recipe for increasing the odds of you living our your full allotment of day.

FIRST: Take a huge daily dose of humility! (Proverbs 3:7a)

  • There are two kinds of people: Those who are wise enough to know they don’t know and those dumb enough to think they do. A health dose of “running scared” has a tendency to prolong life.

SECOND: Drink plenty of “fearing God.” (Proverbs 3:7b)

  • Fear, taken in it’s proper dose, is extremely good for you.
  • Take only tiny doses of fearing man, for after all, they can only harm the body.
  • But take daily large doses of fearing your Creator! Remember, He is the one who set the limits and made the rules. He did it for your well-being and respecting them goes a long way to ensuring you live a full and fulfilling life.

THIRD: Read, read, read (did I mention to read) the directions!!! (Proverbs 3:7c)

  • Life is never a straight line. There are a lot of twists and turns. But thankfully the Creator has left good directions; we call it a Bible.
  • A good place to start is with the Ten Commandments. Obey them and you will greatly increase your chances for living a happy, prosperous, and long life.

The ONE THING for today: So Isaac breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days. Genesis 35:29

Not a bad epitaph!
