A Third (And Last?) Chance for America? :: By Dave Hubley

(There is a special message at the end of this article for those who might happen to read this and do not have Jesus in their life and are looking for peace and a way to better understand the present-day insanity and confusion.)

I normally don’t like to wander into the realm of politics in my articles, as I believe the Spirit has assigned me to be a witness for the Gospel instead. There is no shortage of people covering the swirling world of political mayhem that has become the norm.

I want to make clear that I don’t assign any divine importance to Donald Trump. He is just a man. A man that God has “apparently” chosen to serve Him at this time.

I remember thinking, after the 2020 election was engineered, that perhaps the hand of God had finally been lifted from America.

America was being given over to a political ideology that publicly renounced Him.

“Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness” (1 John 3:4).

I thought it could be because there were so many safeguards built into our political system to ensure that elections were conducted according to ethics and law, yet there was so much evidence that these laws were being blatantly ignored and/or disregarded, and worse, there were so few “officials” that were willing or able to stop this travesty.

I am not so naive as to think everything previously was all sunshine and lollipops, but it was a bit discouraging to see the total lack of accountability under the Constitution and the failure to consider that, if left unchecked, this can’t end well for anyone. Not the sheep. Not the wolves.

I also realized that avoiding political discussions in the long haul was not going to be completely possible because politics was going to continue to force itself upon “religion” whether it has a right to or not. Throughout history, the “state” has always tried to become a self-appointed, secular-human god.

As we have witnessed in the last (almost) 4 years, government began a program of antichrist-like persecution against Christianity in particular; it was not going to be a gentle process, and there would be no effort to disguise it.

I am not going to provide a list of examples of these persecutions of both the church and of secular patriotic American citizens. There are far too many of them, and many people have already become aware of them due to their level of viciousness.

For the Christian who is unaware, I would urge you to start paying closer attention.

What I mean: I am not advocating for focusing on politics when a Bible study is the purpose of meeting. The Word of God should be the focus in that case.

What I DO NOT mean: I do not mean that a discussion among Christians involving politics should be some sort of taboo. A discussion about anything that is or will be used to restrict or persecute our freedoms, religious or otherwise, should be rationally and respectfully acknowledged and examined especially when any government is blocking or restricting our right (and obligation) to gather together in worship of God.

This same principle applies to going out to a restaurant, movie, or any other public gathering, especially when “rules for thee but not for me” prevail.

We had just experienced 4 years (2016-2020), of a president who, whether he was beginning to feel the presence of God or not, at least acknowledged His Name and began an attempt to guide America back toward its Biblical roots by standing up for the principles contained within.

Whether Donald Trump was just being “political” with those principles in 2016 is almost an aside. He clearly stopped the ongoing slide toward the anti-biblical principles of the then-secular governing body, which openly rejected God while paying Him lip service. Many people pointed out their empty words, and the anti-God group did not like it.

Then came 2020 and the ensuing administration. The downhill slide could not be ignored. It reached into the personal lives of so many Americans through the proliferation of “educational” institutions pioneering new depravities, open promotion of America hatred, intentional invasions of our borders, etc. The list goes on and on.

Most Americans, as the recent vote would attest to, were beginning to see the formulation of our country’s funeral arrangements, and they responded to it.

Yet, real awakening did not really come about and bear any fruit; instead, pride and “patriotism” obfuscated the true direction that America needed to take. Repentance and humility toward the only source of Truth and Love, not “conservatism,” was the answer.

Patriotism and conservatism are fine qualities to have, but they will ultimately prove worthless if one lives in a Biblically founded nation that turns its back on God.

So, what two warnings did our merciful God send, and what were the results?

1.September 11, 2001, prompted an awakening, but not really a spiritual one. It was very short-lived and did not turn our nation to God for more than a few weeks. The waving of Old Glory was not the flag of national repentance. America had missed the message that God had so clearly sent: That the false god of fortresses (America’s reliance on its perceived military strength) was only hubris, but that clear message was rejected or not being received at all.

2.The circumstances of the 2016 election and its miraculous shift in the dead of night from a “certain” Hillary Clinton victory to the election of Donald Trump gave a second opportunity for Americans (and thus America) to repent and seek His forgiveness. He tried to “drain the swamp,” but corruption in our government and a lack of enough righteous men and women prevented a national turning away from the evil that has become entrenched in every institution and office. Trump, with all his faults, had been used by God as a wake-up call, but there was still no real evidence of genuine repentance on the part of individuals or the nation itself.

God, in His great Mercy and as has always been evident in His Nature, had given America another opportunity, and we had squandered it.

Along comes the miraculous election of 2024.

God, it appears, has given this nation a third chance.

Lest anyone be quick to dismiss this third chance as entirely a result of human effort, you may want to reconsider.

I am not prepared to say that, unequivocally, the survival of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump was direct intervention by the Lord; however, it is not outside His Power to do so. I will say this unequivocally: it is consistent with God’s Grace, and so too were the miraculous circumstances of this election, and it certainly got Donald Trump’s attention as well as a very large portion of the people who witnessed it.

Now, what will he, and more importantly, Americans, do with this opportunity?

Is this indeed the final warning to America as a nation? We can’t know for certain, but the Word of God tells us that continuous rejection of God and His Son, Jesus Christ, will result in a terrible consequence. This applies to individuals, but I believe it also applies to nations who refuse to repent and embrace the Truth of God’s Word.

“For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they believe the lie, in order that judgment may come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness” (2 Thessalonians 2:11-12) Emphasis added by me.

So also is this warning to “he who has ears and eyes” but still refuses God’s Grace.

“Make the hearts of this people calloused; deafen their ears and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed” (Isaiah 6:10).

Now to the crux of this article.

I believe that God may very well have given America its last warning by placing a man who acknowledges His name in the highest office in the land and an opportunity to repent as a nation, to have a future, and to continue to be a blessing to Israel instead of a curse. This warning from God is as old as Abraham, and there is historical proof of its clear meaning in viewing the wreckage of nations who made the choice to be a curse.

How important is it to understand this?

“I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:3).

All the families of the earth. With God, ALL truly means ALL. Jew and Gentile. Everyone.

The Word of God, the Bible that has been available to people for centuries, indicates that God is now in the very final stages of bringing about the events foretold in the Book of Revelation that commence in Chapter 4, verse 1: The End of the Age of God’s Grace where anyone who is willing and still in their living years may come before God in repentance and be saved (please read the Special message at the end of this article).

God does not consider countries as anything important. His concern is for individuals:

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

Can America turn (repent) from the path it has been following, and in responding, receive God’s Grace in place of His judgment?

Will Donald Trump prove to be obedient to God?

We will have to see.

More important is this promise by the Lord Jesus to anyone who is willing:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life” (John 5:24).

The special message I promised you:

For anyone who may read this article and has not trusted in Jesus Christ and therefore has no hope or peace in your life.

You can have hope. You can have the peace that Jesus has promised to all who have made Him their Lord and Savior. The peace that passes understanding.

It requires that you come before God on His terms and that you do so in your living years.

And, what are His terms according to His Word?

  • Genuine repentance (turning to God instead of continuing to reject or ignore Him).
  • Confession of sins (that you are a sinner and acknowledge that to God).
  • That you understand that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
  • To acknowledge to God that you are unable to pay that debt.
  • Belief that Jesus Christ paid your death sentence for you on the cross and rose from the grave three days later, conquering death, just as He promised.
  • To believe that Jesus is the Way, the only Way, that God has established by which humans may be saved from the consequences of their sin and rebellion.

God has made it absolutely clear that there is no one who comes before Him, under His terms, that will be refused.

  • No one: no race, no color, no country of origin, regardless of any previous belief system: no one.
  • No matter what your past sins have been, God can and WILL forgive you because He says He will.
  • Salvation is available to everyone without any exceptions.

If you put all your trust for salvation in Jesus, and Him only, you can follow that prayer up by simply saying, “Thank you, Father God, for hearing my prayer and saving me,” because we can trust Him to keep His Word. He always has. He always will.

“Truly, Truly, I say to you that he who hears My words and believes the One who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed from death to life” (John 5:24).

There are no answers and there is no hope in the world by governments, organizations, politics or politicians. There are only lies and deception. But you can have the Truth and the peace you seek.

The answers are in the Word of God—The Bible. If you ask God, with all your heart, He will hear you.

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
